p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder did not notify Ofsted when she began working with an assistant and has not provided the necessary information to enable Ofsted to carry out the required suitability checks. This is also a breach of requirement of the Childcare Register. The childminder's current system for evaluation is not fully effective in identifying areas where she needs to improve to meet requirements.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children sustain a high level of engagement and concentration in their learning. The childminder provides a wealth of resources and activities that capture children's interest and motivate them to learn. Children make exceptionally good progress in their learning. The childminder has highly effective strategies to work in partnership with parents. Parents actively contribute to the precise assessments for their children's development. They comment on the excellent service their children receive. Children enjoy their time in this highly stimulating learning environment. They are happy and settled. The childminder and her assistant are caring and place a strong focus on supporting children's emotional well-being. The childminder undertakes independent research and training to help her extend and build on her knowledge even further. For example, through research, she has significantly improved her knowledge on how to support children's social and emotional

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and held discussions about children's progress. The inspector spoke with the childminder and her assistant at appropriate times throughout the inspection and played with the children. The inspector viewed documentation, including evidence of the childminder's suitability and qualifications. The inspector checked areas in the property used for childminding.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder has an excellent knowledge of how to support children's learning but does not fully understand all responsibilities related to promoting their welfare. She failed to notify Ofsted when she began to work with an assistant and has not provided Ofsted with the information required to determine the suitability of the assistant. However, the assistant is not left in sole charge of children at any time. The childminder and her assistant know what action to take should they have any welfare concerns. They are aware of their duty to prevent children being drawn into situations which could put them at significant risk of harm. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder works closely with other professionals, such as her local authority early years adviser and other childminders, to evaluate the effectiveness of the provision. However, her self-evaluation is not robust enough to identify all areas that require improvement, such as the breach in requirement.
p.3
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder uses effective observations and appraisals to monitor her assistant's performance and provides very good support for her ongoing development. For example, she has identified that her assistant would benefit from observation and planning training to help her plan activities that excite and inspire children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder's planning is highly effective and she achieves an exemplary balance between guiding learning and allowing children to work things out independently. For example, children became engrossed as they practised independently threading cereals onto spaghetti. The youngest children received excellent support from the childminder's assistant. Children benefit from a wide range of resources and activities that enrich their learning. For example, they take great delight in nature walks and collect natural materials, such as cones and leaves. The childminder expertly uses these opportunities to extend children's knowledge of nature even further.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder has not met all requirements to promote children's welfare as she has failed to follow the correct procedures to ensure the suitability of her assistant. The childminder provides a warm and welcoming learning environment where children behave well and respect one another. She helps children to learn what is expected of them. Children share, take turns and include the childminder in their play. The childminder provides healthy meals and children enjoy daily outdoor play.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Younger children are highly enthusiastic and ready to learn. They show high levels of confidence as they sing rhymes and dance to different rhythms. Children's listening and attention skills are extremely good for their age. For example, even the youngest children pay close attention as the childminder explains what the moon looks like. Children develop excellent physical and mathematical skills from a young age. For example, toddlers learn to sort objects such as pegs and ribbons, and also identify and match colours. Children are extremely well prepared for their next stage of learning, including starting school.
