This provision is good
Since her previous inspection, the childminder has addressed the actions set. This has had a positive impact on improving the quality of her practice. The childminder provides a good range of learning experiences for children. She successfully provides varied activities that encourage their development. The childminder has a strong understanding of individual children's interests. She identifies what children can do best and gives them good personalised support to continually develop their skills. Children make good progress. Older children have good opportunities to develop their independence to help prepare them for school. For example, they are actively involved in setting up activities. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder regularly exchanges information about their children's progress. Positive feedback from parents helps demonstrate the good relationship she has with them.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder supports children's early mathematical skills. For example, she uses appropriate language to help promote their understanding during play and children have a good knowledge of numbers.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Opportunities for younger children to make choices about their play and to follow their own interests are not fully effective. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to improve her practice and knowledge even more, to further develop learning outcomes for children.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interactions with children. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation, improvements since the last inspection and plans to develop her provision further. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' views through written feedback. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including risk assessments and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Since the last inspection, the childminder has developed her practice well. For example, she confidently carries out progress checks for all children aged two years and has a clear understanding of how to support her practice with effective policies. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of safeguarding and child protection up to date. She is aware of the procedure to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. Parents are very complimentary about the childminder, praising the range of activities and individual attention given to their children's needs. The childminder has good partnerships with the other nurseries that children attend. For example, information about children's care and learning is shared to help ensure continuity across the settings. The childminder has worked with her quality adviser to reflect on and strengthen her practice. She has begun to identify areas for improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers detailed information from parents when they first start about their interests, likes and dislikes. She uses observations and assessments to help her monitor children's development and understands their current levels of learning. The childminder clearly knows what interests the children and she interacts well with them during play and extends their learning. She creates a wide range of learning opportunities that stimulate their curiosity. For instance, when painting leaves children had recently collected on a walk, they discovered insects emerging from the leaf litter and enjoyed an animated discussion. Children learn about the world around them. For instance, they enjoy sharing stories about their home experiences.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder talks to children in a calm and kind manner. For instance, she uses praise effectively to boost children's confidence. Children become confident learners. The childminder promotes children's social skills well. For example, children enjoy going to local playgroups, where they learn to mix, share and to participate with others in group activities. The childminder is consistent in her approach to children's behaviour. She provides clear explanations that support children's understanding about how to behave kindly to one another. Children know to wash their hands before lunch.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress from their starting points. They learn the skills needed ready for their move on to school. Children are eager to learn and explore the wide range of activities provided. Young children learn personal care skills as they practise wiping their noses. Older children enjoy investigating numbers as they play.
