This provision is good
The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's daily routine. This is shared verbally and in the form of a diary. Parents comment how useful this is to help them understand their child's development. The childminder is responsive to children's individual needs and recognises when they are unwell. She ensures they have time to rest and regularly checks they are comfortable. This supports their emotional well-being and helps them to feel valued. The childminder completes regular observations and assessments of children. She uses this information to help identify any gaps in their learning. Children make good progress in their development from when they first start at the setting. The childminder forms good links with other settings that children attend. For example, she links her activities to the local school's current topic to help ensure continuity in learning for the children.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact that this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. She evaluated a focused activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, children's records and a selection of policies and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents provided through written testimonials.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The experienced childminder reflects upon her practice and includes the views of parents and children. For example, she asks parents to complete a questionnaire about the quality of the service she provides. The childminder asks children what they like and want to play with. She uses this information to plan activities which engage them, mostly well and supports their good progress. Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures. She knows what action to take should she be concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder has a range of risk assessments to help minimise potential hazards within the home and on outings.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder promotes mathematics well. Young children take coloured cotton wool balls and try to match them to the same coloured spaces in cardboard boxes. Older children complete large jigsaws using various shapes and sized pieces. Children learn number names and try and copy the words as they place bangles on their wrists and say, 'one, two, three'. The childminder promotes children's communication skills well. She uses very clear language and lots of repetition. Children have lots of opportunities to explore and discover things themselves. The childminder knows the children well, understanding their likes and dislikes, following their lead and joining in with their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children understand right from wrong. She is consistent in her approach and offers praise and high fives when children use their good manners and follow instructions. Children behave well and form good friendships with other children. The childminder provides a range of opportunities to help children practise their physical skills. Children enjoy trips to the local parks and can use the equipment in the childminder's garden, such as the slide and tricycles. The childminder is a positive role model and teaches children to follow good hygiene routines. Children wash their hands before eating the nutritious meals provided.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop their independence skills such as wiping their own noses and putting their shoes on. They are motivated to play and learn and choose from the wide range of toys and resources provided. Children use their imaginations well and older children pretend to iron clothes. Younger children enjoy feeding dolls and use spoons to stir up pretend food. Children are well prepared and develop the skills needed for their next stage of learning and move on to school.
