This provision is good
The childminder offers a welcoming environment for children. For instance, there is a well-organised playroom where children choose from a good range of resources and play materials. Children form strong attachments to the childminder and other children. They are happy and settled. The childminder is attentive to their individual needs and supports their emotional and physical well-being effectively. There are effective partnerships with parents. The childminder keeps parents well informed and successfully involves them in their children's learning. For example, she shares information each day and provides regular written progress reviews. Children take part in a wide variety of experiences that the childminder plans based on a good understanding of their interests and needs. They enjoy the activities and make good progress in their learning from their starting points. The childminder makes good use of opportunities to further develop her knowledge and

skills. For instance, she has used what she learned on a course to review how she monitors children's progress closely, particularly in relation to their communication skills.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not work as closely as possible with the other early years settings that children attend, to help develop a highly consistent approach to children's learning. Opportunities for children to experience how things change and further develop their understanding of the natural world are not fully extended.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children taking part in activities with the childminder and assessed the impact this has on their learning. The inspector had discussions with the childminder about her practice and children's learning and development, and evaluated an activity with her. The inspector looked around the areas of the home used by children. The inspector sampled paperwork, including children's records. The inspector read comments from parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to recognise and report any concerns about a child's welfare or well-being. She keeps up to date with childcare practice effectively. For instance, she makes use of links with other childminders and the support offered by the local authority. The childminder reflects on her provision and makes changes that have a positive impact. For instance, she has updated how she keeps records of children's development so they can now be shared with parents more easily. She regularly seeks feedback from parents to help her evaluate the service she provides and identify areas to improve.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers detailed information about children before they start and gets to know them well. She observes children closely and quickly identifies any areas where they are doing well and where they may need more support. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. For instance, she talks to children, encourages conversations and introduces new words. She engages children successfully in stories, for instance, children are delighted to use their cardboard telescopes to act out what happens in the book. The childminder makes good use of daily routines to encourage children's early mathematical skills, such as counting and talking to children about shapes and sizes during mealtimes.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder acts as a good role model for children. She offers children calm, consistent guidance and praise. Children behave well and quickly become familiar with the daily routines. They learn about diversity and about different people and communities, for instance, by tasting different foods and sharing their own experiences. The childminder is vigilant about children's safety and checks the home thoroughly each day to identify and remove any hazards. She supervises children closely at all times. Children develop an awareness of how to stay safe. For example, the childminder shows them how to manage the steps up to the flat carefully. They benefit from daily outings and enjoy practising their physical skills in the playground or park.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy making choices and decisions, such as which story to read or what toy to play with. They communicate well, expressing their ideas and recalling previous events during conversations. Children develop good social skills. They take turns and learn to share and resolve disputes with their friends. They become more independent, for instance, they learn to put their shoes and coats on and take them off. Children enjoy listening to stories and they join in with familiar words and phrases. Older children count confidently as they play and recognise the letters of their name. They are well prepared for their future learning and for the move to school.
