This provision is good
The childminder has a well-developed understanding of the learning and development requirements and of how different children learn. She provides activities that meet their individual learning needs successfully. This helps children to make good progress from their starting points. The childminder is a good role model for children. She gives children lots of praise and encouragement, and they behave very well. Children learn to share, take turns and are kind to one another. Partnerships with parents are well established. Parents comment that their children enjoy the wide range of good-quality activities that they experience and that the childminder keeps them well informed about their ongoing learning and development. The childminder has successfully addressed the recommendations from the last inspection. She regularly reflects on her practice to identify her strengths and areas to improve, to support and maintain good outcomes for children effectively.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently give children the time they need to think and become fully involved in their learning. At times, she moves children from one activity to another before they are ready.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
allow children the time they need to think, to further strengthen their concentration skills and to be fully involved in their learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including attendance records, accident records and suitability checks. She discussed the childminder's self-assessment information, observation, assessment and planning records. The inspector considered the views of parents and carers through letters provided on the day of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder makes sure that children remain safe and completes regular risk assessments to identify and minimise any hazards effectively. She understands the process to follow if she had a concern about the welfare of any children in her care. The childminder tracks children's progress effectively and identifies emerging gaps in their learning well. She uses her strong partnerships with professionals effectively to share good practice and access training to improve the quality of her teaching further. For example, she has used new knowledge to better support children's mathematical development. The childminder establishes good relationships with other settings, which helps to promote continuity in children's learning and care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes regular observations and assessments of children's development and uses children's interests well to plan for their individual next steps in learning. The childminder supports children's communication and language development well. For example, she talks clearly, listens carefully and interweaves new words, such as 'digital' and 'estimate' as they weigh objects. This effectively extends their vocabulary. Children thoroughly enjoy creative play. They have great fun using bubble wrap to print patterns and create pictures of vegetables. Children learn about the natural world. For instance, they show delight and wonder as leaves blow high into the air and as they listen to the sound they make as they walk through them. Children eagerly explore different technology through role-play activities and when using interactive toys.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a warm and homely environment where children develop a strong sense of belonging that effectively supports their self-esteem. Children confidently make choices about their play, lead their own learning and develop their independence well. For example, they put on their shoes and are eager to try things for themselves. The childminder plans daily opportunities for fresh air and physical exercise. For example, children play outside and regularly visit the park to feed the ducks and use the climbing frame. Children gain a good knowledge and understanding of diversity as they learn about different cultures and festivals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are gaining skills in readiness for school. They are active learners and develop their early mathematical and problem-solving skills well. For example, children engage enthusiastically, talk about the different sizes and shapes of train track and investigate space. Children confidently test out their theories. For example, they show great delight as they mix dough to make assorted colours.
