The inspector held discussions with the childminder and her assistant. The inspector spoke to the children. The inspector read written feedback from parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is committed to a high standard of learning and care for children. She attends training regularly and reviews her practice to improve children's learning. For example, she provides more opportunities for boys to learn during outside play and to increase their engagement. The childminder holds regular supervision meetings to discuss her assistant's role and areas for his professional development. He has attended all mandatory training. Parents are pleased that children grow in confidence and the flexible approach of the childminder towards meeting their needs. The childminder works with other providers and professionals effectively to ensure children get the support they need for their learning and care. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant know the procedures to keep children safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is very alert to children's interests and skilfully adapts her teaching to their learning needs. She engages them fully and helps promote their language skills through speaking and listening to their responses. She effectively promotes children's coordination skills and models how to catch small balls. She encourages them to practise the more difficult actions to focus their throwing towards her outstretched hands. Younger children receive good support to remove bricks from trays and to replace these, helping them to develop their concentration. The childminder regularly assesses children's achievements and identifies the progress they have made. The childminder makes effective use of resources and motivates children well with praise.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle well into the stimulating, well-resourced environment. They form strong relationships with the childminder and her assistant. Children are eager to play in the garden and develop self-confidence. For example, they enjoy playing on swings and developing their vocabulary while they talk with the childminder about going high. Children learn about maintaining their safety and wear a harness while they sit in the chair. They learn about healthy lifestyles and enjoy a range of physical play experiences. Children enjoy light lunches and a good selection of fresh fruit for snacks. They are self- assured and offer to complete small tasks, such as setting out place mats at lunchtime. Children's behaviour is good and they consistently follow rules at the setting.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. They actively initiate some play activities. Younger children make marks on paper and older children develop good pencil control in preparation for writing. Children's language skills are developing and they learn to join in with conversations. They learn to participate in large group activities away from the childminder's home. Children develop a wide range of skills they need in preparation for learning at school.
