This provision is good
Overall, children make good progress in their development. The childminder observes children's play and, generally, makes accurate assessments of what they can do. The childminder creates a stimulating environment. She provides a variety of learning opportunities throughout the day that motivate children and promote their physical and communication skills. Parents are involved in children's learning. The childminder shares detailed information about what children are learning and the activities they are enjoying, so parents can build on these at home. The childminder has worked with the local authority advisor to identify specific aspects of her practice that need improving. She has identified the training she needs to further develop her teaching. Children form secure attachments to the childminder and show they feel safe, happy and confident. The childminder supports children to develop friendships and helps them

understand how they have similarities and differences to each other.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always focus sharply enough on what fascinates children during play, to support her to carefully plan captivating and highly challenging activities. The childminder does not have a highly effective way of reviewing children's progress over time, to ensure they make even more rapid progress.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder, co-childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback they had provided. The inspector looked at relevant documents and checked evidence of the suitability of those living and working on the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder evaluates aspects of her practice and has identified training to support her to improve learning opportunities for children. She and her co-childminder continually reflect on how children use equipment and add new resources to keep children interested. Partnerships with parents are strong and the childminder has adapted how she communicates with them. She shares information about children's favourite stories and songs, so parents can continue children's learning at home. The childminder builds partnerships with local schools that children attend. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has methodically reviewed her procedures, using support from the local authority advisor, to make sure they are in-line with local guidelines. She has a secure knowledge of how to respond to concerns about children's welfare, and has completed training to update her understanding of specific safeguarding issues.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is experienced and qualified. She successfully creates an environment that stimulates children's learning, overall. Children enjoy experimenting with dry rice and carefully chosen resources help prompt them to talk about colours and size, as they sort and fill containers. The childminder guides children's learning as they explore mixing chalk and water. She makes suggestions to help them think about the different marks they can make with wet chalk and their hands. The childminder brings stories to life with interesting resources to get children involved and help support their language and early literacy skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are developing the important social and emotional skills they need to become confident learners and get along with their friends. The childminder builds their self- esteem, answers children's questions, listens to their choices and explains simple expectations. She talks to them about why they should have worn aprons to keep clean and offers them choices, such as when they want to have snack. The childminder understands the community she works in and helps children think about what makes them similar and different from other people. Children have extended time outdoors to play, explore and enjoy fresh air and exercise. The childminder understands younger children's routines and quickly meets their needs when they are hungry or tired.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and are well prepared for their next stage in learning. They become independent in managing their own needs and hygiene routines and grow in confidence to ask for help if they need it. Older children learn to share well and play cooperatively with their friends to create imaginary games. All children enjoy being helpful and getting involved in tidying away toys.
