This provision is good
The childminder is very warm and nurturing and close bonds are evident between her and the children. Children approach her with much confidence and affection and are very much at home in her setting. The childminder builds strong partnerships with parents. Both parties work very closely together to help children reach their full potential. Parents make very positive comments about the care and learning their children receive. The childminder makes thorough checks of the premises each day and identifies and removes any hazards to help provide a safe environment. She teaches children how to keep themselves safe and supervises them appropriately. The childminder supports children's language development very well throughout all activities. She allows children time to initiate conversations and respects their thinking time, to help them develop their interaction.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although she completes mandatory training, the childminder has not yet established a highly focused programme of professional development to drive forward the quality of teaching to an even higher level.

extend the current arrangements for professional development that provide more opportunities to raise the quality of teaching even higher.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe. She understands how to recognise and report any child protection concerns. She keeps her knowledge of current legislation and procedures up to date. The childminder reflects on the service she provides and welcomes the views of parents to help her improve her practice. She effectively monitors children's progress to make sure they are reaching their expected level of development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a range of stimulating and exciting experiences. She builds on what children know and can already do and plans carefully to ensure children are challenged and learn new skills. For example, during a biscuit making activity various cutters and tools help to develop fine motor skills and new descriptive language is introduced. There are good opportunities for children to develop their creativity. The childminder provides a range of materials, such as cornflour and water paste and paint, so that children can delight in sensory exploration. She helps them to grasp simple mathematical concepts, such as more and less and demonstrates the language for shape, position and measure as she plays alongside them.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's behaviour is good. They are learning how to share and take turns with gentle support and encouragement from the childminder. Their health is promoted well. The childminder promotes good hygiene routines, such as handwashing before children eat. Children thoroughly enjoy the nutritious home-cooked meals provided, and the childminder reminds them to have a drink throughout the day, to help them stay hydrated. Lots of time is spent outdoors which helps benefit children's health and physical development and to widen their experiences of the world. Children love exploring parks and nature areas and are frequent visitors to soft-play areas and gymnastic sessions. The childminder helps children to learn how to keep themselves safe through conversations, activities and everyday routines.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and are becoming well prepared for nursery and school. They demonstrate impressive communication and language skills and converse clearly and confidently. They proudly talk about their family members and join in with favourite stories, such as one about a bear, with much delight and enthusiasm. They have good self-help skills and manage practical tasks, such as using the toilet and feeding themselves. They listen well, follow instructions and stay focused and engaged for considerable periods of times.
