This provision is good
The childminder has developed her knowledge and practice since registration. For example, she has completed training in safeguarding and child development. She is now studying for a level 3 qualification. The childminder's quiet and calm manner provides a relaxed and welcoming environment where children settle easily. Babies are comforted and snuggle into the childminder to have their bottle of milk. Their behaviour demonstrates they feel safe. The childminder works well with parents. She keeps them consistently informed of their children's achievements and how they are progressing in their learning and development. Parents make positive and complimentary comments about the childminder. They say how much their children enjoy attending and the good range of activities she provides for them. Parents comment on the progress their children are making. Children enjoy the childminder's company and engage well in activities as they play

together, such as number games and colour sorting.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not gather detailed information from parents about children's prior development to support her in identifying children's starting points and help her to plan more accurately for their learning from the outset. The childminder does not consistently provide opportunities for children to gain a greater awareness of how they differ from, or are similar to, other people.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend the information gathered from parents to include children's prior knowledge and skills when they start at the setting, to help plan for their next steps in learning increase opportunities for children to learn about different people's backgrounds and diversity.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the signs that would cause her concern about a child's welfare and the processes to follow. Daily safety checks of the premises and other areas children use help to ensure they play in a safe and suitable environment. Children are actively involved in practising safety procedures. The childminder successfully uses her self-evaluation processes to identify areas of weakness and set targets for improvement. She shows a commitment to providing a high-quality service for children and their families. The childminder is well organised; her policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and effectively implemented in practice. The childminder monitors children's progress well. This helps her to identify any gaps in development early and provide the appropriate support.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming environment. For example, she organises her setting well and provides a wide range of activities and resources to support children's development. Children benefit from the childminder's effective teaching. She is very positive and encouraging during her interactions with children. The childminder asks well-placed questions and gives children time to consider their response before she moves on. The childminder follows children's interests well. For example, when they dress up in princess dresses, she uses her telephone to play songs that go with the dresses for the children to sing and dance to, which they enjoy. The childminder makes regular observations and assessments of children's learning to help ensure children make good progress. She communicates well with parents and provides them with written feedback on a daily basis. This helps parents to continue their children's learning at home and to

have a clear overview of their day at the setting.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have established positive relationships and secure attachments with the childminder. This successfully contributes to their well-being. Children behave very well and use good manners. The childminder provides a consistent approach so children understand what the expectations for behaviour are. Children choose from a good range of toys and resources which is stored well for independent access. They demonstrate that they feel happy and secure in the childminder's care and confidently approach her with their wants and needs. Children learn to adopt healthy habits, implementing good hygiene practices and being physically active. The childminder teaches children safe practices so that they learn to identify and manage risks for themselves.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make progress that is appropriate for their age. Babies respond well to the light and sound from the overhead toy. Older children build their communication and language skills well. They show concentration and determination throughout their learning. Children are learning key skills that result in them being prepared for the next stage in their learning and for starting school.
