This provision is good
The childminder has robust recruitment systems in place, to ensure that all adults working with children are suitable to do so. The newly recruited assistant works well with the childminder, he is interested in children's development and committed to his role. The childminder monitors his work well. The childminder provides parents with detailed policies and procedures about her role and responsibilities. She provides information about the early year's foundation stage, which informs parents of what to expect concerning their children's care and education. The childminder has continued to develop effective systems for observing and assessing children's progress. Assessments are accurate and include the progress check for children between the ages of two- and three-years-old. This helps her to effectively plan for children's individual learning needs and interests. Children are encouraged to be physically active, as they share experiences, such as

walking around farms, looking at animals and farm equipment, and trying out their climbing skills on low haystacks. Children make good progress and develop the skills they need for their move on to school. They develop close relationships with the childminder and their behaviour is good.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully explore how to extend her skills and knowledge, to provide even more rich and varied activities to support children's learning even further.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of practice and its impact on children's care and learning. The inspector evaluated a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to children and the assistant during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records and a range of other documentation including, training certificates and evidence of suitability checks. The inspector took account of parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant are aware of possible signs and symptoms of abuse. They are clear about the procedures they must implement should they feel a child is at risk of abuse or neglect. The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements, and shows a commitment to continual improvement. She seeks the opinions of parents and regularly reviews the quality of her setting taking steps to improve what she provides for children. For example, the childminder and her assistant have developed the outdoor area to promote children's interest in the world around them. The childminder communicates with parents in a number of ways to keep them well informed about their children's progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is successful at encouraging parents to share information about new skills children develop at home. She makes very good use of this additional information, alongside her own observations and children's interests to plan a well-balanced range of activities and play opportunities. This helps children to enjoy their learning as they move on to what they need to learn next. The childminder makes good use of her teaching abilities to help children develop their listening skills and their concentration. She presents them with a task, explains the aim and demonstrates how to achieve it. The challenges she presents are realistic and within children's reach, which gives them a good sense of achievement.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder invites children and their parents to visit before the children's starting date. This time is particularly helpful in supporting children as they quickly forge a bond with their key person. As a result, children adjust to their new surroundings well, feel safe and settle quickly. The childminder makes good use of the local community. For example, children visit the library, choose a book and listen to a story. The childminder focuses well on helping children learn to follow good hygiene practices, and to eat and drink healthily. As children get ready for moving on to school, the childminder helps them to be emotionally ready. She teaches them what to expect and focuses on them being confident, independent children who are ready for the next stage in their education.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The children excitedly listen to a familiar story skilfully read by the assistant. Children name characters, describe what is happening, name colours and count in answer to his questions and prompts. Children rise to the challenge of their next task and follow the childminder's instructions to successfully make three houses out of straw, sticks and bricks. As they make the houses, they confidently retell the story in their own words using very good communication skills.
