This provision is good
The childminder is well organised. Polices are regularly reviewed and are effectively implemented into her daily practice. Detailed risk assessments help to ensure that risks to children are identified and minimised. The childminder provides a good-quality service for children and their families. She works hard to ensure that parents take an active role. For example, she ensures they have every opportunity to comment on their child's learning and to offer ideas and interests from home. The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment. Children show they are settled and happy. They clearly have strong relationships with the childminder. This is demonstrated in their positive interactions with her. Children learn how to be safe through good support and direction from the childminder. She explains to them about, and demonstrates, how to handle and use tools safely. She reminds them why they need to pick up their toys off the floor and ensures all children

take part in the emergency evacuation procedure.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always enable less confident children to take the lead during play. As a result, those with more confidence, can at times, take over. Although there are a good range of resources on offer to children, the childminder does not ensure children are provided with enough opportunities to learn about diversity and the wider world.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with children and the childminder at appropriate times in the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of those living on the premises, policies and procedures and training certificates. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written testimonies.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of the steps to take should she have a concern for a child's welfare. She knows the signs that may indicate that a child is at risk from extreme behaviours and views. The childminder evaluates her practice on a regular basis to ensure she continually reflects on her provision. She attends a range of training and works closely with the local authority improvement adviser to help her identify and prioritise areas of development. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder gathers a useful range of information from parents before children begin. She uses this to help plan and tailor the environment when they first start, and to gain an insight into their starting points for learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is well qualified and experienced. She knows the children in her care well and offers a broad range of interesting and challenging experiences. She spends time making observations on their learning and development, using information gathered to identify appropriate next steps. Children show good imagination. They dress and feed the dolls and carefully lay them down to rest in the bouncing chair. Children ask others to be quiet as they say their doll is sleeping and they ask visitors to watch the dolls whilst they have their lunch. During outdoor play, children make pretend pies from a variety of natural materials and pulses. They work together to stir and mix pretend ingredients. Children develop secure language and communication skills. The childminder talks to children as they play. She asks varied questions, giving them time to process and think about how they wish to respond.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps the children to develop their social skills. Children regularly visit local toddler groups and stay-and-play sessions. Children behave well. They listen to, and follow instructions. They use their manners saying 'please' and 'thank you', and are respectful to each other. Children show good skills in their personal hygiene. For example, they stand at the sink and wash their hands, taking time to dry them appropriately on paper towels. In addition, they know when they need the toilet and manage this task independently. Children are offered a healthy and balanced diet. All meals and snacks are served at the table, and this promotes a positive social occasion.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn a wide range of skills that prepares them well for the next stage in their learning. They demonstrate their understanding that print has meaning. For example, they find their names during group time and place this on a wall chart. Children develop their physical skills well. They show good dexterity as they unscrew bottles and use and handle watering cans. They confidently handle and use a range of tools and climb up and downstairs with ease.
