This provision is good

 The childminder has close bonds with the children. They are happy and confident in her care. She has a good knowledge of the children and their care routines and children are well cared for.  The childminder has good relationships with the parents. Communication between the setting and home is effective, providing a consistent approach to children's learning. Parents' and children's views form an integral part of the childminder's self-evaluation process.  The quality of teaching is good. Children make good progress and develop well across all areas of learning.  Overall, the childminder provides a stimulating learning environment indoors and outdoors.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although there are many opportunities for children to engage in learning of their own choosing, routine activities, such as meal times are sometimes prioritised over children's activities.  There are sometimes few opportunities for children to practise emerging physical skills, such as climbing.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review the organisation of routines so that children are able to complete activities to their satisfaction  enhance opportunities for children to further extend their emerging physical skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors.  The inspector looked at samples of children's records and other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took account of parents' views through written feedback provided on the day.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder demonstrates a strong desire to improve. Recent evaluation has seen the introduction of song time using props to enhance children's language development and understanding of the world. The childminder is committed to her own professional development. Training on children's schemas has prompted her to review her resources to increase children's engagement in learning and extend their language skills. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements robust procedures to help protect children's welfare and has a secure knowledge of how to keep them safe.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has high expectations of children and what they can achieve. With the support of the parents, she makes thorough and regular assessments of the children's learning. Activities provide children of all abilities with challenge. The childminder is responsive to children's interests and changes activities and resources to meet their needs. For example, when children choose not to sit down to sing the childminder adds dance to the activity. This helps to enhance children's creative and physical skills alongside their language development. Children are engaged and motivated to learn. The childminder has an extensive knowledge of the children's development and their next steps. Children learn through real-life experiences. For example, they visit the vets to extend their understating of how to care for animals.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children settle quickly into the childminder's home. They are comfortable in her care as they seek her out to share experiences and she is responsive to their needs. The childminder is a positive role model and children behave well. She encourages teamwork and cooperation between the children. For example, she supports the children to carry toys between them. The childminder builds children's confidence and supports them to try new experiences. For instance, she slowly introduces her pet guinea pigs to the children allowing them to become familiar with them at their own pace.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making good progress from their starting points. They achieve milestones typical for their age across all areas of development. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. Children are becoming independent and learning skills for the future. For example, they pour their own drinks and clean the table after mealtimes.
