This provision is good
The childminder provides children with interesting and challenging experiences which help them to become keen and motivated learners. All children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date and attends training to effectively promote her professional development. For example, she recently completed training to help support children who have special educational needs to extend their overall learning experiences. Children are settled and happy in the childminder's welcoming and homely environment. They develop strong, positive attachments with her, and learn to take account of the needs of others and to share and take turns effectively. Children are well cared for in a clean and stimulating environment. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments to minimize hazards and teaches children how to keep themselves safe successfully.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully encourage parents to share information about children's learning at home to complement future learning and support their progress further. Occasionally, the childminder does not take all opportunities to help children to build consistently on their understanding of healthy food options.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children and the activities in which they engaged. The inspector viewed the parts of the premises used for childminding and talked to the childminder and the children at appropriate times. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including risk assessments, children's records and the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector and childminder jointly observed children at play. The inspector reviewed parents' feedback by sampling written documents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of the procedures to follow should she have concerns for children's safety. She keeps up to date with current safeguarding guidance and implements effective procedures to help protect children from harm. Since her last inspection, the childminder has continued to evaluate her practice and addressed the recommendation that was set. For example, she has effectively increased opportunities for children to freely experiment with a range of creative activities. The childminder observes children closely and accurately monitors their development to ensure that any identified gaps in their learning are narrowing. She makes effective use of what she knows to plan for children's individual learning needs. The childminder shares this information with the parents effectively.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well. She plans challenging and enjoyable activities based on children's interests and capabilities. The childminder supports children's communication and language development effectively. She teaches them to learn to ask and answer questions to help build on their vocabulary. For example, children effectively talked with the childminder and used their imagination to describe how they will get to their holiday destination. They discussed how they could drive a car and sail their boat. Children are creative and play imaginatively with a range of materials. For instance, children used rollers and cutters to manipulate the play dough and pretended they are making cakes. The childminder extended their learning further by asking them to think about how they can shape the dough and encouraging them to count, and identify shapes and colours.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is affectionate and attentive to children's individual needs. She uses positive and purposeful praise and encouragement. Children behave well and enjoy sharing their experiences with each other. For example, they share role-play experiences as they play with dolls and pretend to care for them. Children have regular opportunities to be active and explore. For example, they enjoy visits to local parks and playgroups. Children learn to socialise with other children and learn about the differences between themselves and others. The childminder provides children with nutritious meals and snacks and children follow good hygiene routines.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are enthusiastic and effectively motivated to learn new things. They ask questions to express their needs and develop good social skills, such as interacting with others confidently. Children enjoy making marks in a range of ways that helps to develop their emerging writing skills. They learn to identify numbers and letters, for example, when completing puzzles. All children make good progress and gain useful skills for their future learning, including when they move on to school.
