As children discover a hat they develop a game that captivates their interest. Each child touches, feels and wears the hat. Staff name each child and their actions in turn. Children are engrossed and learn about themselves and others during this activity and enjoy being together. They demonstrate excellent listening and understanding as staff sing songs that enthral them, for example, a child responds by picking up and rocking a doll, matching their actions to the song. Staff encourage children to think about different sounds in the environment to develop their understanding of what is taking place around them. When playing outside, children show fantastic understanding as they look up to see geese fly
