This provision is good
The childminder has significantly improved the quality of the service she provides since her last inspection. She has welcomed support from her early years advisers and has accessed training. This has had a positive impact on information provided for parents, the children's safety and their overall learning and development. The childminder is beginning to obtain information from parents about their views on the service. She liaises with her co-childminder to reflect on the quality of the activities they provide to improve outcomes for children. The childminder provides a good range of learning experiences, both indoors and outdoors. Children have opportunities to plant and nurture vegetables, and use resources, such as spaghetti and pasta tubes to develop skills in threading. The childminder observes the children as they play, assesses the progress they make and identifies where they may need additional support. In conjunction with her co-

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities in the childminder's home and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's training certificates and evidence of her suitability. The inspector took account of the written views of parents. The inspector discussed the success of an activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the signs and symptoms of harm and neglect. She keeps her knowledge of legislation current, for example, by accessing training and reading publications. The childminder risk assesses the areas in her home used by the children and minimises potential hazards. She holds a first- aid certificate and is aware of how to administer basic first aid. The childminder is aware of the benefits of working in partnerships with other providers, such as for children attending more than one setting. She maintains strong partnerships with parents. Parents appreciate that their children are happy in the care of the childminder and her co- childminder, who they say are approachable if they need advice and support.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching and learning is good. Children make effective progress in all areas of learning. Overall, the childminder helps the children to think for themselves and develop their own strategies about how to use the resources. Children ask the childminder what they should do with resources, such as dried pasta tubes and spaghetti. The childminder takes this opportunity and supports the children to develop their own ideas. Young children have opportunities to use chunky chalk and make marks on blackboards. The childminder supports children in all of their self-chosen activities. For example, she sits with them at their level and interacts at appropriate times, and knowing exactly when to withdraw to allow them to lead their own learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is attentive and responsive to young children's needs. She knows exactly when they are tired, and provides warmth and comfort to help them go to sleep. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder watches over them as they play in small groups and helps them to manage their own behaviour. She helps the children to learn to share and take turns with the resources. Children are beginning to learn about keeping safe and leading a healthy lifestyle. The childminder reminds them about the importance of fresh air and how exercising helps them to keep fit. She talks to them about dangers near roads and in their environment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing good skills in readiness for the next stage in their learning, such as the move on to school. They are comfortable in the childminder's home and confident in their surroundings. Children are becoming successful in developing literacy skills. They have opportunities to write and make marks with a range of writing implements and materials.
