This provision is good

 Children build strong relationships with the childminder. They are happy and settled and show high levels of self-confidence, which helps build good levels of emotional well- being.  Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder gives them daily feedback and keeps them involved in their children's progress, which helps to provide continuity in children's care and learning.  The childminder monitors children's development well. She uses her assessments to help her to identify gaps in children's progress and implement plans to support them to catch up.  Children develop skills that prepare them for their future learning, including pre-school and school. For example, they follow simple instructions and complete simple tasks independently, such as helping to tidy the toys after play.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 During some activities, the childminder misses opportunities to help children think critically, and develop their own strategies for solving problems.  The childminder does not make the best possible use of information sharing with other settings children attend, to ensure she routinely targets children's learning needs precisely.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend children's learning and encourage their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills more  improve the sharing of information with other settings that children attend, to help target children's learning needs more precisely.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children.  The inspector read relevant documentation, including children's learning records and the policies and procedures.  The inspector asked the childminder questions on how she ensures that children are kept safe.  The inspector viewed the areas of the home used by the children.  The inspector discussed with the childminder how she evaluates her setting.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the signs that a child may be at risk of harm. She knows what to do if she is concerned about a child's well-being. She evaluates her provision well and seeks the views of parents and children to help develop further. Since the last inspection she has developed the outdoor area so that children can access the resources more easily and make independent choices of what they would like to do. The childminder makes good use of online information from childcare organisations, the local authority and other childminders to refresh her knowledge and share ideas to help improve her teaching.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She makes good use of a range of ways of teaching, such as using picture cards to help children with speech and language difficulties catch up with their peers. She uses children's interests to help them learn further. For instance, she uses young children's interest in electronic toys to encourage them to press the buttons to make the toys light up and make sounds. Children eagerly explore the environment. As they play, the childminder talks to them and frequently repeats new words and phrases, such as the names and sounds that animals make. She encourages them to repeat these to help develop their emerging language.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children's behaviour is good. The childminder acts as a very good role model and sets clear boundaries for behaviour. She gives children lots of encouragement as they complete tasks. For example, when they successfully complete puzzles, she claps her hands and praises them. The childminder recognises the importance of keeping children safe. She completes daily risk assessments of the environment. Children learn about keeping themselves safe through guidance from the childminder. For example, they practise regular evacuations so that children know what to do in case of an emergency. Children have opportunities to learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others. For example, the childminder provides toys and books, and talks to children about people who have disabilities. They learn to value and respect others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Young children are happy and demonstrate high levels of confidence as they explore the environment and independently choose what they would like to do. They show an awareness of the need for good hygiene routines, such as wiping their nose and washing their hands.
