This provision is good
Children are motivated to learn and make good progress in their development. The childminder provides a wide range of enjoyable activities based on children's interests. She observes children closely during their play and uses the next steps in learning to provide children with more challenging and stimulating experiences. The childminder is caring and nurturing. Children form close bonds and secure relationships with the childminder. She gathers useful information from parents about children's individual care routines prior to starting. This helps to support children's emotional well-being effectively from the very first day of starting. Partnerships with parents are very positive. Parents are very complimentary about the service the childminder provides and the wonderful care and learning opportunities their children experience. Children are well behaved and learn good social skills. The childminder has clear

expectations and is a good role model for behaviour. She constantly praises children's achievements and sets positive examples that help to promote their personal and emotional development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not give children the time they need to respond to questions and help them to extend their thinking skills further. Sometimes, the childminder overlooks opportunities to encourage children to become more aware of and recognise familiar words, to support their literacy development even further.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of what she would do if she has any concerns about a child in her care. She knows the key signs and symptoms to look out for and the details of who to contact. Thorough risk assessments are completed for all the areas used by children. This helps to ensure their safety while in her care. The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and attends training to help maintain high standards and professional development. The childminder works closely with the local schools to ensure that the transition to school is as seamless as possible. She shares information about children's progress to provide continuity of care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The experienced childminder has a good understanding of how children develop and what they need to learn next. She shares information daily with parents to support children's progress and learning in the home. The childminder makes good use of the local amenities and provides children with exciting learning experiences. For example, children attend singing groups and playgroups where they meet other children and adults. The childminder plays alongside children using their interest in cars and superhero figures to strengthen their communication and language skills. Children count accurately during their play and repeat familiar phrases, such as ready, steady, go while launching their spaceship. Outdoors, children explore the water area with fascination and curiosity. They transport the water to the drainpipes using different sized containers and they pour and measure with increasing confidence.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's independence is promoted well during daily routines and activities. They know where resources are stored and help themselves. Children help to tidy up and learn to change into outdoor clothing when going outside. They learn to use the toilet independently and manage their own hygiene practices. The childminder encourages children to make healthy food choices at mealtimes and works closely with parents to achieve this. Children's behaviour is very good. The childminder teaches children to use good manners and gives clear expectations of goals and boundaries. Children visit numerous places of interest in the community and learn about the differences and the diversity of the world around them. They learn about other cultures, celebrations and festivals other than their own, and enjoy looking at books.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good

They are well prepared for the next steps in learning and future move on to nursery or school. Children show high levels of enjoyment making pretend cakes using dough.
