For instance, she has followed feedback from the last inspection and improved the way she evaluates her provision. Children develop good relationships with the childminder. She has a kind and caring approach that helps children to feel safe and secure. The childminder uses praise and gentle encouragement to help promote children's growing confidence and self-esteem. Children concentrate well and are keen to be involved in the activities that the childminder provides. She supports them well while they play, such as joining in with them to help aid their motivation and enjoyment. Children play and learn in a safe and secure environment. The childminder regularly assesses the risks to the premises to identify and minimise any potential hazards. The childminder keeps parents regularly informed of children's progress, such as

through daily discussions and journals. This helps parents to know what their child is working on and how to support their learning at home.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
There are few opportunities for parents to fully share what they know their children can do or have achieved, to support the childminder's assessment of individual children's ongoing progress. At times, the childminder does not provide enough opportunities for younger children to further develop their early literacy and support their exploration of different media and materials.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her duty to keep children safe. She knows how to recognise and report any signs that indicate a child may be at risk of harm. The childminder has a good understanding of the statutory requirements and keeps herself up to date with current legislation. For example, she undertakes research and regular training to improve her teaching and care practices. The childminder regularly talks with parents about their child's day and the progress they make. Parents are happy with the service provided by the childminder and often recommend her services. The childminder monitors the progress children make to ensure that she quickly addresses any gaps in their learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder checks on children's achievements regularly and knows them well. She observes what children can do and uses this information generally well to plan age- appropriate experiences. The childminder teaches children new skills effectively. For example, she demonstrates and explains how to use a range of musical instruments during song-time sessions. The childminder offers a good blend of adult-led experiences and activities that children choose for themselves. Children have good opportunities to develop their communication skills. For instance, they are helped to learn new words quickly as the childminder plays alongside them, modelling vocabulary and phrases to help develop their vocabulary and speaking skills. The childminder encourages parents to support their children's learning at home, such as sharing stories to support their enjoyment of books and early reading skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming, friendly environment for children and their families. Children learn to follow good hygiene practices, such as washing their hands before snack. They have regular opportunities for fresh air and the childminder encourages them to eat healthy meals and snacks. She nurtures their self-esteem well through plenty of praise and encouragement. The childminder agrees children's care needs with parents, such as via ongoing daily conversations, to ensure these are continually met. The childminder helps children to develop their independence as they play and learn. Children behave well. The childminder supports children to manage their feelings effectively and encourages them to make relationships with others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are happy to make independent choices about where to play and are enthusiastic learners who are eager to take part. Overall, children are developing a wide range of skills in preparation for the next stage in their learning and eventual move on to school.
