This provision is good
Children are well behaved for their ages. The childminder and assistant consistently encourage children to learn about taking turns. The childminder works cooperatively with her assistant and she supervises her effectively. Children benefit from a calm, jolly and welcoming environment. The childminder observes and assesses children's progress effectively and uses this information well to help children to learn and develop. She provides the necessary support to children who have gaps in their learning, including linking with external agencies. Children make good progress from their starting points, particularly with their self- confidence and personal, social and emotional development. The childminder equips children with the skills and attitudes that will help them to settle at school when the time comes. The childminder is inclusive in her practice. She makes reasonable adjustments for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Professional development does not focus precisely enough on raising the quality of teaching to the highest level. The childminder does not always provide parents with clear, high-quality information about the setting's policies and procedures.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector and childminder jointly evaluated a teaching activity carried out by the assistant. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such evidence of the suitability of the assistant and adults living at the premises. The inspector spoke to the assistant, children and parents during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder and discussed self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have undertaken appropriate training and they can identify typical signs of abuse. They know what to do if they are concerned about the welfare of a child. The childminder knows how to minimise any hazards in the environment to keep children safe from harm. Parents are happy that children are well cared for. The childminder can identify her strengths and she is keen to continue to improve. At inspection, the childminder's public liability insurance had lapsed. However, during the inspection, the childminder promptly renewed her insurance cover. The childminder gathers the views of others, including her assistant, to support her effective self-evaluation.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is skilled in enticing and engaging children of different ages. Babies, toddlers and older children are successfully included in shared learning experiences. For example, babies smile and make noises with instruments, as older children take the lead with songs and actions. The childminder and her assistant interact effectively with children. They consistently give children good eye contact and speak with them fondly. The childminder and her assistant provide a narrative so that babies gain more understanding. They ask good-quality questions to support older children to think carefully and respond appropriately. This is good support for children's communication and language development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gathers useful information from parents to help children to make a settled start. Positive relationships grow quickly and children's emotional well-being is effectively nurtured. The childminder provides a variety of experiences inside and out of the home and she regularly visits local children's centres. Children enjoy playing outdoors and she takes them to the local park. The childminder encourages parents to support children's development. She shares strategies with them and encourages a consistent approach at home and while in her care. For example, the childminder and parents work together to guide children to become toilet trained. At lunchtime, children are encouraged to manage tasks according to their ages and stages of development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Babies are content and older children are happy and relaxed in their play. All children join in with experiences and seek the childminder and her assistant to share in their fun. Babies are curious about their environment and they test resources through exploration with their hands and mouths. Toddlers and older children enjoy making their own choices in play. They grow in independence and gradually learn to manage self-care tasks. All children enjoy regular praise that they receive from the childminder and her assistant. They respond positively to their requests and interactions. Children make good progress and are well-prepared for school when the time comes.
