This provision is good
The childminder continually observes and assesses children to highlight their abilities and help them to progress well from their starting points. All children acquire key skills in preparation for the next stage in their learning. Children play in safe and secure premises. The childminder frequently checks resources and equipment to ensure these are suitable and appropriate. The childminder plans a wide selection of exciting and interesting activities. Children confidently make their own choices and decisions during their play experiences. Children's behaviour is good. They fully understand the boundaries and are well mannered. The childminder works alongside parents in relation to behaviour management to create consistency of care. The childminder implements effective settling-in procedures. These enable children to feel at ease from the outset and to settle quickly.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The current programme for professional development is not yet highly targeted on improving the quality of teaching to the highest level. The childminder does not make the best use of self-evaluation to focus precisely on making improvements to her practice that particularly benefit children's future outcomes.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the childminder's home used by children and observed play and learning opportunities. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at and discussed a range of records, and policies and procedures with the childminder, including evidence of qualifications and the suitability of all adults living in the household.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of how to protect children from harm. She is fully aware of how to correctly respond to any safeguarding concerns or issues. Children are actively involved in practising safety procedures. For example, the childminder carries out monthly fire evacuations to enable them to know what to do in the event of an emergency. This helps children to gain their own awareness of keeping themselves and others safe. The childminder is passionate and enthusiastic about her role and responsibilities. She shows a commitment to providing a high-quality service for children and their families.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of children's individual interests and learning needs. She communicates well with parents and provides them with written feedback on a daily basis. This helps parents to continue their children's learning at home and to have a clear overview of their day at the setting. The childminder effectively supports children to extend their communication and language skills. She involves children in meaningful discussions and asks purposeful questions. Children develop good thinking and problem- solving skills. The childminder introduces children to simple mathematical concepts. For instance, they are helped to learn about shape and space as they complete jigsaw puzzles, and talk about speed and distance during small-world play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are relaxed and content. They have established positive relationships and secure attachments with the childminder. This successfully contributes to their well-being. The childminder has established positive links with nursery and primary schools. She completes transition documents to share relevant details about children's development with teachers. This helps to support and develop children for their future moves. Children have numerous opportunities to be involved in physical play. Furthermore, the childminder arranges trips and outings to allow children to interact and mix with others. This enables children to enhance their personal, social and emotional development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those in receipt of funding, make good rates of progress. They show concentration and determination throughout their learning. Children start to show an interest in activities that involve making marks and practise their early writing. This helps to extend their literacy skills. Children develop their own understanding of the world. They easily recognise differences and similarities, and talk about the various purposes of toy vehicles during imaginative play. Children comfortably link their activities to real-life experiences.
