This provision is good
Children develop strong attachments to the childminder and other children in the setting. The childminder supports children's developing self-esteem effectively. For example, she cuddles and praises them and promotes their emotional well-being. Children learn to be independent. For example, they follow simple instructions, such as putting shoes and coats on and washing hands. The childminder and co-childminder work well together to provide a safe, warm and welcoming environment. Children flourish and are keen to learn. The childminder prepares children well for school in a number of ways. For example, children begin to recognise their names. The childminder has effective monitoring systems in place to help identify any gaps in development as early as possible to provide appropriate support.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently seek children's views when identifying ways of improving their experiences in the provision. The childminder does not provide opportunities regularly to extend children's understanding of technological equipment to help them learn how some things work for a purpose.?
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
involve children in the evaluation of the service provided and seek their views on how the setting could improve further strengthen the opportunities for children to extend their understanding of technology.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the premises. The inspector observed the childminder interacting with children and her co- childminder. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder and held discussions about children's development and progress. The inspector sampled documentation, including planning, children's development records, policies and procedures. The inspector took into account the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder works well with her co-childminder. They reflect daily about different activities which helps them to provide an interesting and stimulating environment. The childminder has good relationships with parents and other settings that children attend. For example, she works with the pre-school to plan their menus together. The childminder keeps her knowledge current, such as with regard to new legislation and practice changes, to help improve her teaching skills. For example, after researching how children learn, she now plans activities to follow children's interests. Since her last inspection the childminder has improved the physical play opportunities for the very young children in the outdoor environment. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of safeguarding issues. She knows what to do and who to contact if she has a concern about a child's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the developmental needs of all children, including those who have special educational needs and those learning English as an additional language. She is skilled at supporting them and giving simple explanations about differences to all children. She encourages children to respect and value one another effectively. The childminder successfully adapts activities for children of all abilities. For example, during an activity she asked challenging questions of older children, such as 'what shape is it?' and 'will it fit?', and repeated back words for the younger children. Older children are beginning to think for themselves. The childminder helps children develop an awareness of mathematical language, for example, as they discuss size.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder prepares children well for school. For example, they gain independence and begin to manage small tasks on their own. She is a good role model and children's behaviour is good. She successfully teaches children to be aware of risks and their own personal safety. For example, children learn how to hold a knife safely and cut up their own fruit, and how to cross a road safely. Children have various opportunities to develop their physical and social skills, for example, as they mix with other children, visit a variety of different groups and play on large equipment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn mathematical language, such as 'bigger' and 'smaller'. They develop an understanding of diversity. For example, they explore and investigate resources from different countries, such as drums from Africa. Children share, take turns and play well together. They develop communication and language skills and make good progress from their starting points. Children have good manners. For example, they ask to 'get down' before they leave the dinner table.
