This provision is good
The childminder provides a range of well-planned activities for children that cover all areas of learning. As a result, all children make good progress in their learning. The childminder is skilful at supporting children's communication and language skills. She speaks clearly, listens carefully to children, and uses questions to engage them in conversations. The childminder is a good role model and has high expectations of children's behaviour, which are clearly and consistently communicated to children. Children are confident and demonstrate that they feel safe and secure. Children's individual care needs and routines are incorporated into the day. Children rest and sleep in line with their requirements. They build their independence when they help to prepare their snacks, feed themselves during meal times and attempt to put on their coats and shoes. The childminder is very well organised. She effectively implements a comprehensive

range of policies and procedures to underpin her good practice.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Strategies to support parents with their children's learning at home, are not yet fully effective. Although the childminder strives to keep her knowledge and skills up to date, she does not focus her professional development sharply enough on raising the quality of her teaching to the highest level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a robust understanding of child protection issues, and has completed recent safeguarding training to ensure she is informed of changes to legislation and procedures. She knows the procedures to follow should she have concerns about the safety and welfare of a child. All required records and documentation are in place and all adults who are associated with the setting have undergone appropriate checks. The childminder also understands the value of close partnership working with other agencies, such as early years settings, to support and complement children's care and learning. She welcomes the views of children and parents to support her self-evaluation. Parents are very complimentary about the childminder and the service that she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children thrive in this home-from-home environment. The childminder is well organised and manages her space and resources successfully, to enable children to freely make choices in their play. The childminder observes children and gains a good overview of their development and progress. She successfully identifies ways to challenge and extend their learning further. Children benefit from her good interactions and are keen to achieve. They enjoy using their imagination, as they match the sounds of animals to pictures they see in a book. Children take part in creative activities, freely making marks with chalks in the garden. The childminder supports children's mathematical learning. She helps them to count, make comparisons about size, and use positional language.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gathers information from parents, before children start, and she provides flexible settling-in sessions. This helps the childminder get to know children well and effectively meet their care needs and routines. Children settle in quickly and have a strong sense of belonging. They develop good self-care and independence skills and access the good-quality resources freely. The childminder is a good role model and gives gentle reminders of expectations. The childminder provides healthy snacks and meals. She offers plenty of opportunities for children to play with energy and vigour, for example, during yoga sessions, and physical outdoor activities. These contribute towards children's growing confidence in their abilities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good rates of progress, and are working within the expected levels for their age. Children have a positive attitude towards learning and are keen to try out new experiences. They enjoy lots of visits to local activity groups, introducing them to a wider circle of friends and helping to extend their social skills. Children show kindness to each other, and are keen to carry out small tasks. Children are well prepared for the next stage of learning, including the move on to pre-school and/or school.
