For example, they understand the importance of holding hands when they go for walks. The childminder is kind, caring and clearly enjoys working with children. Children behave well. The childminder gives children clear, consistent guidance, and gentle reminders about her expectations for their behaviour. The childminder takes children on regular outings in the local community. Children enjoy regular trips to the local parks and shops. They attend local groups in the area, mixing with other children and adults, building on their social skills. It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not use her self-evaluation well enough to set priorities, to improve and develop her practice to the highest level. The childminder does not consistently help young children learn how to pronounce words correctly, to develop their language skills as well as possible.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector viewed written feedback from parents and took account of their views. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members over 16 years of age and checked evidence of the qualifications of the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder attends regular training on a range of safeguarding issues. She has a sound knowledge of the signs and symptoms of abuse, and understands what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She meets with a network of local childminders, exchanging ideas and sharing good practice. She values the knowledge and experience shared. The childminder receives support from the local authority improvement advisor. This helps her to keep her knowledge about early years issues up to date.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The experienced childminder has a good understanding of children's development. She regularly observes children to identity their individual interests, and what they need to learn next. The childminder provides a wide range of exciting learning activities and resources that captures children's attention and covers all the areas of learning. The childminder plays enthusiastically alongside children. Babies enjoy exploring sensory resources that are suitable for their age. They eagerly investigate toys that move and make a noise. The childminder shares information about children's development with parents, and keeps them up to date with what their child has been doing each day. Parents are complimentary of the care that the childminder provides for their children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder spends time with parents to find out information, such as children's care needs, dietary requirements and abilities. This helps her to promote children's individual needs from the outset, and helps children to settle quickly in to her care. Children have regular opportunities to be physically active and benefit from plenty of fresh air. Babies explore their surroundings with ease and confidence. The childminder provides them with equipment, which supports their desire to stand and walk. Children enjoy balanced meals and healthy snacks. Older children learn to be independent. They confidently follow well established routines and hang up their own bags and coats when they arrive.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their initial starting points. Young children begin to develop confidence in different social situations, and have good levels of self-esteem. They are learning about diversity with regard to different traditions, families and communities beyond their own experience. Babies are eager to explore their environment and communicate well through gestures and babbling. Children's early literacy skills are emerging. Children sing and join in with the actions to songs, and enjoy listening to stories. Their early mathematical skills are developing well, as the childminder incorporates counting, shape and size into everyday routines and activities. Children are developing skills needed for their future learning and their eventual move on to school.
