Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding issues. Daily safety checks take place to enable the childminder to identify any risks to children. This helps to ensure that children are kept safe and are consistently protected from harm. The childminder keeps herself up to date with new developments and regularly attends training opportunities. She learns new skills that enhance her practice and help improve the outcomes for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of children's individual learning needs. She gains information from parents about their learning at home. She uses this information and her own observations of children to plan activities that they will enjoy. The childminder extends children's learning. For example, she encourages children to recognise the written numbers on a hedgehog shape. She provides another challenge and demonstrates how to put pegs on the hedgehog to represent the written number. Children eagerly investigate and have a go at mixing white paint into coloured paint. They find out whether it made the colour lighter or darker. The childminder provides children with a range of books. They regularly share stories throughout the day. The childminder uses these familiar storylines to engage children in conversation about their favourite characters.

p.3

Children behave well. They have good relationships with the childminder who warmly welcomes them into her home. She is a good role model. Children happily share resources and give praise when a child produces a piece of artwork or completes a puzzle. The childminder supports children of different ages to get to know each other and play happily together. Older children help younger children to complete activities and guide them through the daily care routines. Children are provided with healthy foods. They understand good hygiene and independently wash their hands before mealtimes. Children are able to feed themselves and have good table manners.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making good progress and are working well within the stage of development expected for their age. They are confident learners and show a real sense of pride in their own achievements. Children gain independence and develop the skills they need in readiness for school.
