This provision is good
The childminder successfully supports children's language and understanding as children play. For example, she introduces words to describe their actions, such as 'high up' and 'jump down'. The childminder is a very good role model for children. She sets clear expectations for behaviour and helps children learn to respect and be tolerant of each other. She encourages them to share, take turns, and learn about feelings. Behaviour is good. The childminder identifies and addresses any gaps in children's learning to ensure that children make good developmental progress. She uses information from observations to plan well for children's next stage of learning. The childminder develops positive partnerships with parents and professionals, to support children's all-round development and emotional needs effectively. The childminder keeps children safe from harm and risks. She completes risk assessments to help identify potential hazards, and helps children learn how to manage
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the noise level in the learning environment is quite high and this sometimes interferes with children's listening and communication skills. The childminder does not share ideas with parents to encourage and continue children's learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

monitor the sound levels in the learning environment to encourage children's listening and communication skills as well as possible develop ways to engage parents in their children's learning, in the setting and at home.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises and reviewed the resources with the childminder. The inspector reviewed a selection of comments from parents. The inspector reviewed a selection of relevant documents provided by the childminder. The inspector read and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation and plans for further development. The inspector observed the interaction between the childminder and the children, and discussed the activities with the childminder and the children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
This enthusiastic childminder evaluates her work thoroughly. She includes the views of children, parents and professionals to enable her to identify areas for development. The childminder continuously improves her skills. For example, she completed training to develop her knowledge on how to promote children's mathematical and literacy skills. This helps her to prepare children effectively for the next stage of learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what action to take if she is concerned about the welfare of a child, including children who may be at risk of exposure to extreme behaviours and views.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder encourages children's learning and development successfully. She supports their matching and sorting skills well. For example, during card games she encourages them to recognise similarities and differences and to identify 'spots' and 'stripes'. The childminder builds children's physical development. For example, she encourages them to jump to catch the bubbles, to climb onto the higher slope and run down, and to place the small game cards in appropriate places. The childminder adapts plans to include children's current interests. The childminder provides lots of praise and encouragement for children's efforts. This builds their self-confidence and willingness to 'have a go' at new things. The childminder keeps parents informed about their children's activities and progress.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy in this safe and welcoming environment. Children learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, they visit the park and make good use of the garden space for physical games. The childminder encourages parents to provide healthy food and shares information with parents about healthy eating for children. This supports children's physical health well. She encourages children to respect and value each other's differences, for example, through conversations, books, stories and role play. The childminder encourages children to develop an awareness of safe behaviours. For instance, children practise the evacuation procedure and learn about road safety.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the independence and curiosity that will help them adapt to the next stage in their learning. For example, they learn about school as they collect their older playmates from school. They confidently talk to the childminder about their friends and look for people they know. Children demonstrate increasing independence, such as when they put on and take off their own shoes and coats, and become independent in their toileting needs. Children show an increasing awareness of the world around them. For example, they talk about the wind blowing the bubbles and where the bubble machine needs to be placed so that the bubbles will come in their direction.
