This provision is good
The childminder is very good at balancing the different needs of younger children. She skilfully includes babies in activities for toddlers or sings gently to toddlers while giving babies a bottle. New children settle very quickly and form a strong bond with the childminder. Initially wary of visitors, children are quickly reassured when she is close by. The childminder promotes children's early language development exceptionally well. She commentates on what they are doing, speaks in short sentences and explains what is happening next. She shows children pictures in books and uses instruments to help them distinguish different sounds. Parents make very positive comments about the care and learning their children receive. They also regularly contribute their views to the childminder's accurate evaluation of her practice, helping her to identify improvements. The childminder has established effective partnerships with the other settings children

attend. Information about children's learning and development is shared, helping the childminder to provide complementary activities.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The planned activities the childminder provides do not always focus precisely on what children need to learn next across all areas of learning. The youngest children have fewer opportunities to continue their learning outdoors.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises, she observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed children's learning. The inspector spoke to children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder, including how she evaluates her practice. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of people living in the household. The inspector spoke to parents and took account of their views provided in written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has effective systems in place to monitor children's development. She provides parents with detailed, accurate assessment information and suggestions to help them continue to support their children's learning at home. The childminder's skills and experience shine through. She uses her knowledge from her qualification and ongoing training to deliver very strong teaching and to develop new, interesting resources. For example, she is developing resources to implement ideas from recent numeracy and literacy training. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a thorough understanding of the requirements she must meet and local child protection procedures. She maintains her knowledge through regular online training. Her home is safe and secure, and she assesses potential risks to children in her home and on outings in the local community.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder finds out what children can already do before they start. She regularly observes and assesses their progress and provides activities she knows they will enjoy. Young children play with a range of resources and use all their senses to begin to learn about the world around them. For example, the childminder drips water on to a mat encouraging them to feel the water and splash for themselves. She blows bubbles and children excitedly pop them and try to blow them too. She provides mirrors and toys that make sounds or have interesting textures. Children are happily occupied and enjoy exploring the contents of accessible boxes and baskets. Children hear the childminder counting and describing colours or shapes and watch with fascination as she spins bowls saying, 'faster, faster'. They enjoy a cosy cuddle as they look at books together.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps young children to begin to consider the needs of others. For example, she encourages and helps toddlers to roll a ball back and forth to babies. She closely observes children and acts swiftly to meet their needs. Children are reassured and show how secure they feel in the childminder's care. They enjoy a cuddle as they wake or fall asleep. The childminder provides healthy meals and snacks. Parents comment that their children choose healthier food options when they are in her care. Young children develop age-appropriate independence. They feed themselves and are encouraged to keep trying to do things for themselves. The childminder gently reminds children to play safely and helps them to develop the basics of good behaviour.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children who have recently started school develop the skills they need to continue in their learning. They recognise the sounds that letters make and write their name. They develop independence in personal care and form strong friendships with other children. Younger children show curiosity and a desire to explore independently. They fully engage in activities and show excitement and wonder at new experiences. They are beginning to communicate through facial expression and gestures and make early speech sounds.
