p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not consistently observe children’s learning to enable her to understand their levels of achievement and plan suitably challenging experiences. The childminder does not use self-evaluation to help her improve her practice and to ensure good outcomes for children. The childminder’s professional development does not focus sufficiently on helping her to raise the quality of her teaching. The childminder has not considered how she can help children to learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others and develop an understanding of the wider world
p.1
It has the following strengths
Following her last inspection, the childminder has improved her knowledge of how to keep children safe. She has ensured that she has a secure understanding of how to recognise and report any concerns that she may have about children’s welfare. The childminder develops positive partnerships with other settings that children attend. She takes an interest in the themes and activities that other settings plan. She uses this information when planning activities. The childminder is friendly and provides a warm welcome to children and parents. Children happily enter and quickly settle in her care. Children are supported to develop an interest in and enjoyment of books. They visit the local library and take part in holiday reading challenges.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at documentation, including policies and procedures, children's development records and the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector took into account the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder has made some progress in improving her provision since the last inspection. For example, she has implemented policies and procedures to safeguard children and ensured that all household members over the age of 16 have had the required suitability checks. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder regularly checks the safety of resources and the areas in which children play. She ensures that all children understand how to leave her premises safely in the event of an emergency. The childminder has also ensured that she now completes the required progress checks to assess children's development between the ages of two and three. However, she does not consistently observe all children to identify any gaps in their learning and development. The childminder has taken some advice to improve the quality of her provision. However, she has yet to improve her professional development and

update her knowledge and understanding of early years practice. The childminder has not considered how she can review her practice. She has not sought the views of parents and children to target areas for improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder collects information from parents when children start. The childminder understands children's interests and generally prepares resources which interest them. For example, young children enjoy mechanical toys. They learn about how they can turn them on and make them move. The childminder joins children in their play. However, she does not evaluate the learning outcomes consistently to successfully plan what children need to learn next. Overall, the childminder supports the development of children's language and communication skills. However, she is not fully aware of how she can provide further challenge to support good progress. The childminder encourages young children to count everyday objects and to learn colours and shapes as they complete craft activities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children have opportunities to play outdoors and develop their physical skills. The childminder plans visits around the local area. However, she does not help children to learn more about people and communities in the wider world. The childminder builds children's self-esteem through regular praise. She rewards children's positive behaviour and good manners. Children learn about independence and self-care. They learn how to dress themselves as they enjoy dressing up as story characters.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children behave well. They develop basic skills that will help them prepare for their next stage in learning. Children confidently communicate their needs and interests. Young children count everyday objects and are learning to recognise shape and colour. However, they are not supported to make good progress across all areas of their learning.
