This provision is good
Children build warm and nurturing relationships with the childminder. She effectively supports new children and babies to feel settled. She responds sensitively when they seek comfort from her, helping to support children's emotional well-being. The childminder communicates well with children, including those who are just beginning to speak. She offers a variety of words and phrases for children to hear, and encourages babies to repeat key words which they are learning. Older children engage in sophisticated conversations where the childminder models new vocabulary. The childminder has developed effective systems for evaluating the service she offers. She seeks the views of parents, children and other professionals to help identify priorities for improvement, and is proactive in making these changes. For example, she has recently created parents' packs, containing a wealth of information. The childminder supports children effectively to make good progress from their starting

points and prepares children well for the next stages in their learning, including the eventual move on to school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children who learn best outside have limited opportunities to explore all areas of learning as part of their all-round development. At times, the childminder does not give children clear and consistent support to reinforce their understanding of behaviour expectations.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection and held a discussion with the childminder about the children's learning. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and interactions. The inspector sampled documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures, and evidence of self-evaluation. The inspector observed and interacted with the children in the inside environment. The inspector reviewed feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has strong knowledge of the signs and symptoms that would cause concern about a child's welfare. She keeps herself up to date with changes in legislation well. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder involves children in their own safety. For example, she teaches them about road safety and how to stay safe in a fire, to help them understand how to manage risks. The childminder liaises well with other professionals, such speech and language therapists. She follows advice to support children who have special educational needs. The childminder has developed effective relationships with parents and involves them in their child's learning well. For example, she records and shares children's daily activities and any new skills she has observed.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is skilled at questioning the children to extend their thinking skills. She engages in children's play and encourages all children to join in. For example, the childminder asks what role other children can play when they act out a story. She supports children who speak English as an additional language effectively, such as by learning key words in their home language and borrowing dual-language books from the library to support children's understanding. Children learn about the wider world, such as by visiting the beach and the ecology centre. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively and identifies gaps in their learning. She uses the information to create next steps which she includes in her planning to target teaching precisely.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to develop their social skills and learn how to make new friendships. For example, children meet new children at local groups and activities, supporting them to learn to play and interact with others appropriately. The childminder develops babies' social skills, such as by modelling how to take turns and being gentle with other children. The childminder provides healthy meals and snacks for the children, and listens to their opinions about what they would like to eat. Mealtimes are sociable learning opportunities. For example, children enjoy conversations about the shapes and colours of their snacks. Older children gain independence in their hygiene practices.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy and confident communicators. Babies develop different ways to communicate, such as by babbling or using gestures. Older children develop skills in early literacy and mathematics. Children learn how to identify and express their different emotions. For example, they use an emotions puzzle to show and explore different feelings. Children learn about the world around them and to be respectful of other cultures and religions, such as by visiting a Chinese food shop and a religious temple.
