This provision is good

 The childminder is a highly reflective practitioner and gathers feedback from parents. She identifies ways to improve which are challenging to help her maintain the good standards of care and teaching she has achieved since registration.  The childminder provides a rich range of activities and experiences for children, indoors and outdoors. She is skilled at adapting her teaching to the needs and interests of young children.  The childminder works hard to involve parents in all aspects of their children's learning. She successfully encourages parents to contribute information about children's capabilities at home.  Children's behaviour is good. The childminder encourages young children to follow boundaries. She teaches all children about behaviour that is unacceptable through consistent behaviour management strategies that she agrees with parents.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not quickly establish partnerships with staff at other settings for children who have recently started.  The childminder's assessments and monitoring of children's learning are not yet fully effective in identifying their rates of progress and their learning styles.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance partnership working with staff at other settings children attend to help promote a more joined-up approach to supporting children's learning and care  strengthen systems to help identify children's rates of progress and their styles of learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of teaching and learning with the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder. He looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder enhances her already good knowledge and skills through professional development. For example, she has recently started to care for early years children. During this time, she has researched how to best support young children's development. The childminder evaluates her practice with other childminders, she has used this to help her to develop her understanding of early years guidance. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about child protection procedures. She assesses possible hazards to help keep children safe in her home and on outings. For instance, she supervises children carefully as they play and learn how to manage risks in the local woodland area.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder considers ways to enhance aspects of children's learning further, such as their early writing and mathematical skills. She provides opportunities for children to develop skills in these areas, including making marks with crayons and putting balls in and out of containers. The childminder regularly observes children's achievements and uses early years guidance to identify what they need to learn next. The childminder teaches young children to feed themselves, to listen, follow instructions and play alongside her. This helps to promote their physical, communication and social skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is continually developing resources to reflect children's emerging interests, such as musical instruments. She has a strong focus on supporting children to learn outside, they spend time in the garden and go on regular outings, including visiting the town park. This helps to support those children who prefer to learn outside. Children have recently started feeling secure in the childminder's care and have a strong bond with her. They confidently explore the house independently, but regularly check-in with the childminder for reassurance. The childminder encourages children to follow good hygiene routines, such as cleaning their hands before eating.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They are becoming expressive and enjoy tapping containers to make a beat. Children move their body to the music they hear from the radio. Young children are starting to develop early mathematics skills, such as knowing something is in a container even when they cannot see it. Children's reading skills are good and from an early age children sit and look at books with childminder. Babies can babble and make sounds, pull themselves along on cars outside, and build a tower with containers as they develop their communication and physical skills.
