This provision is good
Since registration, the childminder has completed a higher-level qualification. She demonstrates a clear commitment to continuing with her own professional development, and has identified clear plans for the future development of her service. Children are able to settle in quickly when they start attending because, the childminder provides a very welcoming and friendly approach. She develops effective working partnerships with parents, based on good communication to ensure children's needs are met. The childminder gives high priority to children's safety. She carries out thorough risk assessments, taking active steps to minimise hazards, and she teaches to children about how to keep themselves safe. Teaching is good. Children benefit from the childminder's enthusiastic involvement in their play. She explains activities and demonstrates how things work. For example, she talks to children about making pizzas and helps them to use the knife safely to slice the

tomatoes. Children make good progress in their learning. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder follows a clear and consistent approach so children know what is expected of them and they respond to this positively.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not encourage children to consider how to solve problems they encounter during activities for themselves. There are fewer opportunities for children to extend their awareness of the world.

make the most of opportunities to encourage children to solve problems they encounter for themselves focus more precisely on extending children's experiences and understanding of the world.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of the persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of how to keep children safe and protect their welfare. She has completed up-to-date training on specific aspects of safeguarding practice. Children are supervised during their play and the childminder helps children to learn about the risks involved in their own play. For example, she talks to children about how to use the swing safely. The childminder is reflective of her own practice. She evaluates the activities planned for the children, makes changes and plans to continue to provide challenges for each child's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children thoroughly enjoy the wide range of activities that are available to them. The childminder plans activities that follow children's interests. She gets to know them well and is successful in identifying starting points and their next steps in learning. Children are eager to take part and become excited when she suggests what they can do. For example, children become fully engaged in their games with toy characters and play completely independently. Children are motivated to try new experiences because the childminder introduces them gently, extending on their previous experiences. As they make pizzas, they are keen to have a taste of all the toppings and they enjoy the childminder's encouraging and descriptive language. This promotes children's developing vocabulary.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children clearly demonstrate that they have a strong emotional attachment to the childminder. They ask her for items they want, for assistance when they need it, and they sit close to her when she plays with them. Children respond to her gentle but clear approach and they laugh at jokes together. Children know the routines of the day, independently going to wash their hands before snack and cooking activities. Children are confident to choose from the good range of toys in the playroom. The childminder enables children to learn about healthy lifestyles. They enjoy physical activities in the fresh air and they are supported to make healthy choices for food and drink.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress from their unique starting points. They are learning useful skills that help prepare them for the next stage in their learning and for their eventual move on to school. Children are eager to try all the activities that are provided for them and they show curiosity and interest. Children are encouraged to make choices and decisions about what they want to do, they are learning to share, to take turns and to consider others.
