This provision is good
Children develop positive attitudes to learning. The childminder fully considers what children enjoy and the possible learning potential, when planning a range of fun and interesting activities. She is skilfully able to enhance children's individual learning needs through spontaneous play. The childminder demonstrates a warm and caring nature with the children in her care. Babies new to the setting quickly form a close bond. They welcome cuddles and gently fall asleep in the childminder's arms. Reviews of children's progress are accurate and precise, and help the childminder to move children on in their learning. She discusses children's next steps thoroughly with parents. The childminder provides activities and ideas about how parents can continue to support their children's learning at home. The childminder makes good use of her local environment. Children choose their own books at the library, and explore and learn about the natural world in country parks.

This provision is good
The childminder carries out daily checks and thorough risk assessments of the premises, which helps to promote children's safety. She makes good use of the space in her home, so that children of all ages can play safely and comfortably.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held discussions with the childminder throughout the inspection about her practice, and children's learning and development. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her local safeguarding procedures and how to report her concerns. She refreshes her understanding and knowledge of child protection through regular training. The childminder assesses her practice, evaluates what she does well, and where she can improve. She receives support and advice from the local authority and discusses best practice with other childminders. The childminder works well with parents. She values their opinions and they work closely together to meet children's needs. Parents speak very positively about the childminder and the quality of care their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands how children learn and develop. She interacts positively during their play, and encourages children to think and make their own decisions. Children build steps with different sized wooden shapes and make good attempts to place them in size order. During the activity, the childminder introduces and encourages lots of mathematical language, such as 'smallest' and 'biggest' into the children's vocabulary. Children enjoy sensory play. They scoop then trickle dry rice from their hands, listening to the sound it makes as it hits the tray. Children confidently name toy bugs hidden in the rice and are encouraged to match them to a picture chart in the tray. Children enjoy singing their favourite songs with the childminder and enthusiastically use props to bring the songs to life.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a warm and inviting home environment. Children feel happy and comfortable to explore and choose their own resources. The childminder works closely with parents to meet young children's care routines, and provide consistency for sleeping and feeding routines. The childminder promotes children's independence and self-care skills relevant to their age and stage of development. They discuss why they need to wash their hands, and children are encouraged to put their own lunch waste in the bin. Children follow routines well. They know that when a particular music alarm sounds that it is time to tidy toys away, helping them to gain a sense of responsibility. The childminder consistently promotes and encourages children to use good manners. Children develop good physical skills during daily opportunities for outdoor play and exercise.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are working at typical levels of development for their age. They are learning the vital skills needed in readiness for the next stage of their learning, such as starting pre-school and/or move on to school. Children are social and confident. They display a good range of independence skills. Children confidently count and learn to recognise numbers in a good variety of play opportunities.
