successful activities to help children to achieve their next steps in learning.  Partnerships with parents are highly effective. The staff team implements a joint approach to supporting children's learning in the nursery and at home. Staff share children's next steps with parents and discuss ways of promoting learning at home. Parents speak extremely highly of the nursery and the staff.  Staff are exceptionally caring and attentive to children's needs. They form strong bonds with all children, who are exceedingly happy and secure.  The manager and staff have built excellent relationships with other professionals and local schools. These result in extremely well-coordinated strategies that promote the excellent progress of all children.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 build on the already excellent opportunities for children to manage even more everyday tasks by themselves, to develop further their already high levels of independence.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed staff interactions with children indoors and outdoors.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector spoke to several parents during the inspection and considered their views.  The inspector looked at a sample of children's records, planning documentation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery. She looked at a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector spoke to members of staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection, and held a meeting with the manager.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The manager and staff ensure that they give the safety and protection of children the highest priority. Staff understand their duty to protect children and they are extremely confident about what to do if they are concerned about a child's welfare. The manager fully understands the importance of monitoring and evaluating practice. He ensures that he, and all staff, access relevant training to maintain the excellent outcomes already achieved for children. For example, recent training about children's emotional needs have enhanced staff's skills to settle children extremely quickly. Staff reflect on their practice routinely and work extremely successfully as a team to make continuous improvements. For instance, they observe each other daily as they teach and provide helpful advice to ensure teaching is consistently of an outstanding standard.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Staff use their exceptional teaching skills to support and develop children's problem- solving and thinking skills. Staff expertly pose questions that allow children to think for themselves and allow children time to respond. For example, children are deeply absorbed as they explore sand, and staff support them extremely well to investigate the changing properties between wet and dry sand. Children are highly imaginative and are captivated when making a den indoors. Staff spark children's growing interest for discovery and experimentation, encouraging them to make a pretend campsite and campfire in the garden. Children delightedly share their ideas, collect logs, sticks and leaves, and confidently fetch pots and pans from indoors to 'cook' their acorns.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children behave exceptionally well. They have an excellent understanding of what staff expect. They treat their friends and staff with great care and consideration. For example, children show exceptional teamwork and perseverance when carrying large logs together. Staff use their observations to plan and resource the rooms and outside area exceptionally well, creating an inspiring communication-friendly environment for children. Staff help children to learn how to be healthy and safe highly successfully. For example, children discuss healthy foods and different types of exercise, and eagerly observe the effects of exercise on their bodies. Children show excellent levels of independence, carrying out tasks on their own, although staff recognise they could extend this further.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children flourish and become remarkably confident communicators. Babies are extremely curious and fascinated about the world around them. For example, they are captivated as they investigate and explore feathers, stones and shells. Older children have excellent early literacy skills and confidently write their names. Children receive excellent support and encouragement, and are extremely well prepared for their move on to school.
