This provision is good
The childminder creates an extremely welcoming and stimulating environment indoors and outdoors. Children develop good levels of independence and confidence. They are motivated learners who initiate their own play and follow their own interests using the varied range of resources on offer to them. Children develop strong attachments to the childminder. Children are settled and happy. They demonstrate that they feel a deep sense of security. They are friendly towards visitors and they play cooperatively with other children. The childminder finds imaginative ways to help children to develop an interest and understanding of shape, number and measure from an early age. Partnerships with parents are very positive. Parents are very complimentary about the childminder and the care and learning experiences she provides for their children. The childminder is a knowledgeable practitioner who is continually looking for ways to

develop her knowledge and skills to further improve outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder provides fewer opportunities for children to learn about people and communities beyond their immediate experiences. On occasions, the childminder provides children with solutions rather than allowing them to think about and solve problems for themselves.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents and other professionals through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder takes all necessary steps to keep children safe as they play. She has a clear understanding of her role and responsibilities with regard to child protection. She knows the procedures she must follow if she was to have a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder's self-evaluation process is accurate and includes the views of children, parents and other professionals. It is successful in identifying well- targeted action plans for continual improvements. The childminder monitors children's progress accurately in partnership with parents. She has developed good links with local schools and nurseries. She effectively supports children's smooth move to these settings when the time comes.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children develop and what they need to learn next. She effectively shares this information with parents to support children's learning at home. The childminder is creative and enthusiastic. She makes good use of local amenities and provides an array of new and unusual resources for children to explore and use. The childminder is very successful in capturing and sustaining children's interest and concentration. She provides clear explanations and demonstrations that help children to learn how to use the resources available and play games. Children who prefer to learn outdoors are given the freedom to do this. Children show deep concentration and purpose in their chosen task as they collect resources from indoors to extend their play outdoors. As children play, the childminder continually supports and encourages them to extend their vocabulary and listening skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is very effective in supporting children to develop safe and healthy lifestyles. Children learn about healthy eating choices. The childminder encourages them to extend their taste for healthy foods. Children enjoy being active and develop good control over their bodies. They concentrate to aim and throw balls and manipulate small items into spaces. For example, they pretend to crawl like a lizard, jump like a kangaroo and waddle like a duck as part of a very active story time. Children develop a very positive sense of themselves. They show confidence in their abilities and are eager to have a go at doing new things.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress. They are well prepared for their next steps in learning and for school. Children develop an increasing interest and understanding of the purposeful print in their environment, such as their names and numbers. Very young children continually extend their understanding of number, shape and measure as they play. They match and sort objects. They use increasingly correct language to describe size, speed, colour and number. Children spend lots of time and show high levels of enjoyment listening to stories and singing action songs. Children demonstrate higher than expected understanding about what steps they can take to stay safe.
