This provision is good
The childminder has made positive changes since her last inspection. She has used information from a training course on phonics to improve the ways she supports children's language and speaking. All children, including those who are learning English as an additional language, make good progress in their communication. The childminder has good partnerships with parents. She regularly exchanges information with them to help them support children's learning and well-being at home and in the setting. Children benefit from consistent experiences and develop well. The childminder has improved the way she monitors children's development. She watches how they play and uses this information to plan good learning experiences that meet children's needs and interests effectively. The childminder is a good role model for children. She supports children to acknowledge others' feelings and resolve differences effectively. Children share well and

their behaviour is good. The childminder provides exciting environments with readily accessible play materials. Children are confident in making choices about how they want to play and learn.

It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder misses opportunities to support children in developing their ideas and thinking as they are engaged in self-chosen activities. The childminder does not offer very much support for children to experiment and use technology to enhance their learning and development.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's teaching indoors and outdoors. The inspector took account of information in letters and completed questionnaires from parents. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of children's learning with the childminder. The inspector had discussions with the childminder and talked with the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled paperwork, including policies and procedures, observations, assessments, planning and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder uses feedback from parents and children to add to her provision. For instance, children decided on changes to the garden to help develop their physical and imaginative skills. They helped choose the new climbing frame and slide, and also a wooden fairy house. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder monitors her practice well and makes sure she keeps children safe. For example, she removes broken items, supervises children well and makes sure they know how to assess risks when they are climbing. She knows how to identify and act on safeguarding concerns about a child's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes accurate assessments about children's learning and development. She plans well for the next steps in their development. Children have good opportunities to explore outdoors. They have fun in the mud kitchen, for example, adding water to sand to make 'porridge', then seeking out sticks for 'sausages' and leaves for mashed potato, which they share with the childminder and their friends. Children enjoy listening to stories and join in with repeated refrains from favourite tales. Children create their own stories, such as when they add animals to the train to return them to the zoo.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
All children have fun playing together and understand about taking turns. For example, they patiently wait to choose a 'sock' from the pretend washing machine to see if they can find a matching pair. The childminder encourages children to work together and develop physical skills. For example, children decide the route and tasks in the obstacle course, and older children support younger ones to throw and aim the ball at a target. Children have opportunities to mix with others, develop social skills and learn to cope with changes, including moving on in their learning. For instance, they visit local parks, work with others to create a wooden boat, and attend 'stay-and-play' sessions at playgroups to join in activities with other children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are happy and eager to learn. Younger children confidently manage risks as they go up the steps to the climbing frame, walk across the wooden bridge and then sit at the top of the slide to come down. Older children enjoy experimenting with colours, textures and patterns. They add food colouring to cornflour and water, noting that red and yellow make orange; and use cars, sticks and fingers to draw patterns and letters in the mixture. Children confidently identify the wooden insects on the fence as four butterflies and two ladybirds, and they add them together, noting there are six insects altogether.
