This provision is good
The childminder is highly committed to her role. She works well with her assistant to create a warm and stimulating environment for all children to learn and play. The childminder uses her linguistic skills successfully to teach children about similarities and differences of people in society. Children enjoy listening and singing in different languages and copy hand gestures enthusiastically. All children behave well. They play cooperatively and show empathy towards others. For example, older children comfort their friends to help them feel better. Children are good at sharing their toys and taking turns. The childminder is effective at supporting children's language skills. For instance, she listens to children and gives them time to express their thoughts and views. Children are confident speakers. They make good developmental progress from their starting points. Partnerships with parents are strong. Parents make highly positive comments about the

service they receive and are very well informed about their children's learning.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently explain what she expects children to do during some activities, to help them make the most of their learning experiences. At times, the childminder misses opportunities to support children's understanding of healthy eating.

Inspection activities
The inspector discussed with the childminder how she evaluates the provision and targets areas for improvement. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she operates her childminding business and looked at children's records, planning documentation and safeguarding procedures. The inspector spoke to parents and read written feedback from them to obtain their views about the service. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and interacted with children at appropriate times. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder and discussed children's play, learning and progress.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder follows rigorous recruitment procedures to ensure that her assistant is suitable to work with children. She offers regular supervisory meetings and effectively supports their professional development. The childminder and her assistant know the correct procedures to follow when reporting any child protection concerns. The childminder evaluates what she does and works well with other professionals to bring about positive changes. For example, she has improved the way she manages children's behaviour to achieve a consistent approach. The childminder attends regular training to help ensure she delivers good standards of care and education.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Overall, the childminder uses her precise observations and assessments of children's learning to provide them with a variety of play experiences. For example, children learn about the life cycles of animals and develop their understanding of the wider world. They have plenty of opportunities to express their creativity. For instance, children have lots of fun decorating their 'paper butterflies' and 'sun catchers.' Boys and girls practise their drawing and writing skills to help support their early literacy. For instance, they learn about letters and the sounds they represent. Children show good levels of concentration. The childminder develops children's mathematical skills in a meaningful way. For example, she makes good use of picture books and nursery songs to encourage counting.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have secure relationships with the adults who care for them, who are kind, gentle and reassuring. This helps them to feel emotionally secure. Children are happy and settled. They move safely and take age-appropriate risks. The childminder supports children's social and physical development effectively. For example, she plans outings to playgroups and provides children with regular opportunities to exercise. Children enjoy moving and dancing with sensory scarves to aid and improve their balance and coordination skills. Children express and manage their emotions very well. For example, they communicate their thoughts and use appropriate resources to help them make sense of how they are feeling. Children are sensitive and respectful of each other.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children gain the important skills they need for the next stage in their learning, including their move to school. Younger children increase their confidence as they challenge themselves building 'big towers.' They jump with excitement as they see what they can do and achieve. Older children practise their independence skills as they help with daily tasks. For example, they take the role of the 'helper of the day' to prepare snacks for their friends. Overall, children are highly motivated and make good progress.
