This provision is good
The childminder completes accurate assessments of children's learning and development. She competently plans activities and experiences for children according to their interests and level of development. Overall, the quality of teaching is good and she effectively supports children to make good progress. Children form strong attachments with the childminder and feel safe and emotionally secure. The childminder's home is welcoming and well organised, which in turn supports children's developing independence and confidence as they select the toys and resources that they wish to play with. The childminder promotes positive behaviour using consistent and gentle reminders to help children's understanding. She is a good role model and encourages children with lots of praise for their efforts and achievements. The childminder continually reflects on her practice and evaluates her provision, taking into account the views of parents and children. This helps to drive improvement and

enhance learning opportunities for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not established highly effective strategies of gaining information from parents about children's learning at home, to help provide consistency and extend learning. The childminder does not give children sufficient time to think and respond to the questions that she asks, to help develop their language skills further.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the signs and symptoms of abuse and the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. She is dedicated and has a positive attitude to continually developing her knowledge and skills. For example, she is currently undertaking a foundation degree and attends additional training to help improve the quality of her practice. The childminder has a range of detailed policies and procedures and shares these with parents and carers, so that they are aware of her practice when caring for children. She regularly monitors the educational programme to ensure she offers a rich and varied range of experiences across the seven areas of learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Throughout children's play, the childminder supports their learning by explaining what is happening, making suggestions and praising children for their efforts. She engages children in constant discussion, modelling the correct language and extending sentences. Children learn about colour and shape and build on their counting skills as the childminder sings with them and reads their favourite stories. The childminder provides many opportunities for children to develop their physical skills, such as learning to hold writing and cutting tools carefully. Children concentrate for prolonged periods as they create 'discovery bottles'. The childminder encourages them to plan what they are going to do, decide what materials they would like to use, follow through their own ideas and solve problems.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a wonderful, warm and friendly manner. She supports children's understanding of the importance of sharing, turn taking and listening to others. Children are encouraged to be independent. They pour their own drinks at snack times, cut up their own fruit and help each other to tidy away toys. The childminder talks to the children about healthy eating and they frequently participate in physical play in the garden and when visiting community venues. Children have a good understanding of hygiene practices as the childminder talks to them about the importance of washing their hands. Children learn how to keep themselves safe, for example, as they master using scissors, remembering how to hold and use them safely.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder effectively supports children to acquire the key skills required for the next stage in their learning. Children are inquisitive and show a positive attitude towards their learning. They are happy and well cared for and demonstrate contentment and increasing levels of confidence. Children's early literacy skills are supported as they begin to recognise their name. They develop an understanding of mathematical concepts through every day routines and activities and display a 'can do attitude' through positive interactions with the childminder.
