This provision is good
The childminder has fostered positive relationships with children. She gets to know them well by gathering detailed information about their interests, needs and what they can already do upon entry. Children feel happy and secure attending the childminder's setting. Children listen to the childminder and behave well. They follow her instructions willingly. Children have good social skills and play well alongside one another. The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She plans a range of interesting activities to promote what children need to learn next. The childminder monitors children's progress in partnership with their parents. Children are making good progress from their individual starting points. The childminder provides good support to help older children to prepare to move on to school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not developed robust and thorough information sharing systems with other settings that children attend. The childminder does not provide enough opportunities to think about what is happening, solve problems or make suggestions during some activities.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas of the premises used for childminding purposes. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector reviewed and discussed documentation including children's records and the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector observed activities in the indoor area and jointly evaluated practice with the childminder. The inspector reviewed parents' written feedback to take their views into account.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibilities. She has good links with her local authority and other childminders to share ideas for practice. The childminder uses professional development to help to refresh her existing knowledge. The childminder gathers the views of parents and children to help to inform her development plans. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the correct local procedures to follow to report concerns relating to children's welfare. She also has a good awareness of wider child protection issues. The childminder makes meaningful use of opportunities to help children to learn about other cultures, differences and diversity.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a range of stimulating and developmentally appropriate activities for children. She identifies areas where children may require further support and addresses these through planned learning experiences. Older children, for example, learn to draw and identify shapes through interesting games. Younger children explore their interests using jigsaw puzzles and imaginative play. The childminder joins in with their games, role modelling language and new vocabulary well. She regularly observes and assesses children's progress. This information is shared with parents, who work closely with the childminder to help her to establish children's starting points.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children feel safe and secure in the childminder's home. They confidently explore the clean, well-resourced learning environment. The childminder uses risk assessment to minimise and remove any potential hazards to children's welfare. She helps children to understand how to keep themselves safe, for example, when using equipment or going out into the local community. The childminder provides children with healthy, balanced meals and snacks which adhere to children's individual dietary requirements. Children select their own snacks independently. The childminder follows children's interests and allows them to take the lead in routines. Children willingly follow instructions, for example, when they help to tidy away the toys they have been playing with.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. Older children are demonstrating key skills which prepare them well for the move to school. For example, they write their own names to label their artwork. They count large quantities of objects and decide who has won the game by comparing the number of cards each player has. Children have good social skills and take turns during games. They are respectful of others and use good manners, which are reinforced by the childminder.
