This provision is good
Children are happy. They enjoy their time with the childminder. She provides activities and resources that meet their interests so that they are motivated to be involved and to learn. The childminder is committed to developing her practice. Since her last inspection she has evaluated her practice to identify her strengths and areas on which to improve. Parents are happy with the care that their children receive. They say that the childminder is welcoming and friendly. The childminder supports the children to build positive relationships. They learn to be polite and they behave well. The childminder helps the children to manage their feelings appropriately. For example, young children learn to take turns and share the resources with their friends. The childminder monitors the children's development well. She plans for each child individually to raise their outcomes in learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder supports the children to recognise their names. However, there are limited opportunities for them to explore print and its meaning. Information is shared effectively with parents in relation to children's care needs but details about their learning are not shared as effectively. This does not support parents to extend their children's learning at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
provide children with more opportunities to recognise that print carries meaning, to extend their literacy as fully as possible strengthen the partnerships with parents further to engage them in supporting their children's learning at home.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder, her assistant and children. The inspector sampled a range of documentation and children's records. The inspector read written statements from parents and took their views into account. The inspector had discussions with the childminder, her assistant and children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have a clear understanding of the local procedures that they should follow if they have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder supports her assistant well. For example, the assistant takes part in regular training to develop his understanding and to raise the quality of his teaching. The childminder is committed to improving her practice. She regularly reflects on the service she is providing. For example, she uses feedback from the parents and children in the setting to reflect on what she does well and to identify areas for improvement. She carries out regular training and works closely with other local childminders to develop her practice. The childminder uses the support of other professionals to offer families and children additional support to help to raise outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder works closely with the parents to get a good understanding of each child's individual needs. She uses her assessments and the children's interests well to support them with their development. For example, during role play the childminder asks the children questions to extend their ideas and to encourage their use of language. The childminder encourages children to sound out the letters of their names to support them with their early literacy skills. The childminder and her assistant skilfully model language to support the young children to pronounce words correctly.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children benefit from daily outdoor play opportunities and they engage well in physical play to develop their large muscles. For example, they use the garden to practise their balance using bicycles and scooters and play cooperatively with their friends with the footballs. The childminder helps the children to learn about healthy lifestyles. They are involved in growing fruit and vegetables and enjoy tasting their produce as part of their snack. The childminder helps to raise the children's confidence and self-esteem. For example, she praises them for their achievements and, as a result, children show pride in what they do and clap to show pride in finishing tasks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop a good range of skills to support them with their future learning. For example, they learn to listen and follow instructions. Children develop their early mathematical language and awareness as they explore quantities during water play. Children are well prepared for the eventual move to school.
