p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not record all the required personal information for each child in her care. Public liability insurance was not in place for periods of time when children were present or available at inspection. This is also a breach to the requirements of the Childcare Register. The childminder does not gather enough information from parents on what children can already do when they first start, to help inform planning of activities and experiences from the outset. The childminder does not use self-evaluation effectively to consistently target her ongoing professional development in order to further enhance the quality of teaching and learning. Occasionally during some activities, the childminder does not give children the time they need to focus and build on their play and exploration to extend learning further.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder observes children's learning and assesses their development. Overall, she identifies any gaps in learning and offers children further support where needed. The childminder helps children form secure attachments and promotes their well-being and independence. She develops relationships with children that are sensitive and responsive. The childminder has realistic expectations of children's behaviour and supports them effectively to develop an understanding of right and wrong. Children are polite and learn to take turns and share.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:
p.2
Due Date
ensure that public liability insurance is valid and in place at all times 26/08/2017
p.2
Due Date
ensure that personal information for each child is recorded, including, date of birth, name and address of parents, who has parental responsibility and emergency contact details. 26/08/2017
p.2
Due Date
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
gather more detailed information from parents about children's capabilities on entry to the setting and use this information to more accurately plan activities and experiences from the outset review self-evaluation processes to target professional development more, to strengthen existing knowledge and extend teaching skills even further give children the time they need to focus and build on their own play and exploration to extend learning further.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during indoor and outdoor activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of written feedback gathered from parents as part of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Weaknesses in the childminder's self-evaluation methods and her ongoing professional development means that she does not meet all requirements. The childminder does not maintain all required records to safeguard children, such as personal information about the child. Although the childminder had public liability insurance in place during the inspection there had been a period of time when this was not in place. Nevertheless, she does have a suitable understanding of child protection issues. She knows what to do if she has a concern about a child and who to contact for advice. The childminder encourages children's understanding of how to keep themselves safe including road safety. Safeguarding is effective. Parents are complimentary about the care and learning the childminder provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder carries out and uses her observations and assessments to help her monitor children's development and plan activities that build on what children can do. Overall, she engages children in activities that interest them. However, she sometimes interrupts children's play unnecessarily, which reduces learning opportunities. The childminder has daily discussions with parents to share information about their child's day. The childminder interacts with children and includes them in conversations. She provides reassurance and shows an interest in what children have to say. This helps to support the development of children's communication and language skills and promotes their early literacy skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder's home is welcoming and inviting. Overall, she uses information she knows about children to help them learn and achieve. However, the childminder does not gather detailed information from parents when children first start to help her plan for their individual needs from the outset, or keep all required records to fully support children's well-being. Overall, she promotes children's health and hygiene by following effective procedures and supports children to manage their personal needs. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles. For example, children enjoy fresh air and exercise every day. She encourages children to sleep or rest when they are tired and provides them with healthy snacks. The childminder helps children to develop an understanding of diversity beyond their immediate family experience, through a range of activities in the local community that teaches them about people in the wider world.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children gain some skills that prepare them for school. The childminder supports children to develop their communication, language and social skills. However, children do not consistently receive the time that they need to build on their play and explore activities to extend their learning further.
