This provision is good
The enthusiastic and friendly childminder has a very good understanding of how children learn and develop. Children arrive happily and clearly enjoy spending time in her care. The childminder uses self-evaluation well to give her an accurate overview of the service she provides. She seeks and values the opinions of parents and children. This helps her to prioritise improvements and constantly develop outcomes for children. The childminder establishes good partnerships with parents from the start. She shares daily information with them about children's care, well-being and achievements. Parents say they are very happy with the quality of care and learning their children receive and the welcoming environment that the childminder provides. Children behave very well. They learn to share, take turns and have good manners. The childminder gives clear, consistent guidance and gentle reminders about her
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently plan precisely enough for children's next steps in learning so that they make even better progress. At times, there are too many resources left out, particularly while the childminder leads an adult-led activity, and children become easily distracted.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

make sure children's next steps are specific and achievable, to plan more precisely for their future learning review the organisation of resources, particularly before adult-led activities to fully ensure children are able to concentrate and become less distracted.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used by children. She checked evidence of the suitability of household members and looked at a range of documentation, including children's records. The inspector took account of the views of children and parents spoken to during the inspection. The inspector observed and evaluated a learning activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The well-qualified childminder implements a range of policies and procedures to underpin her good practice. She maintains her own professional development by completing training to help keep up to date with current guidance and legislation. She regularly meets with other childminders to share ideas and discuss good practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear about her role and responsibilities to keep children safe. She knows what to do should she have any concerns for a child's welfare. Children are well supervised. The childminder carries out daily safety checks to make sure all toys are fit for purpose. She manages risk effectively without limiting opportunities for children's development. For example, she supports young children to safely use the stairs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder provides a wide range of activities and experiences that meets children's individual learning needs. She regularly checks their progress to identify any gaps in their learning and development. Young children concentrate as they piece together train tracks. They engage in imaginative play, pretending to cook and wash dishes. Young children delight in feeding the dolls. They carefully fasten them into small buggies before taking them for a walk. The childminder engages with children well. She supports their emerging language, such as when she asks questions and repeats new words. Young children enjoy looking at picture books and join in with action songs
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's personal, social and emotional development well and they demonstrate that they feel safe and secure. They have built trusting relationships with the childminder and display high levels of confidence. Young children choose their own resources and lead their own play. The childminder helps children to develop an awareness of safety and they learn to manage risks. She encourages them to have a can do attitude. For example, they competently climb steps to the slide and bounce on the small trampoline. Children enjoy regular trips to the local parks and shops. This provides them with opportunities to socialise with other children in the community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stages of their learning. They are confident and eagerly explore their surroundings. Children develop good skills in listening and understanding, and are able to follow simple instructions well. Early mathematical skills are developing. Young children excitedly count the freshly laid eggs they collect from the chicken coop.
