It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, information is not consistently gathered from parents and utilised most effectively to support children as they move through rooms within the nursery.  Although processes are in place for self-evaluation, these do not take into account the views of everyone using the nursery to help drive improvement.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff are knowledgeable of their role in protecting children from harm and neglect. Ongoing training and discussion regarding all aspects of child protection ensures their understanding is secure. Staff are vigilant in regards to the safety of children. They assess all areas children use to ensure they minimise any potential risks. Staff deal with accidents swiftly and appropriately, and share all medical records with parents. Children learn about their own safety. For example, they regularly practise the fire evacuation drill and understand the importance of evacuating the nursery sensibly and calmly. The manager firmly establishes effective procedures for the recruitment and suitability of all staff. She plans and regulates the monitoring of their performance and professional development opportunities well. Good communication takes place between parents and staff who share their children's progress and achievements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children thrive in this stimulating environment. Staff observe, assess and plan for children's individual learning needs. Children show good levels of concentration and are supportive of their peers. For example, they listen carefully to different sounds, and identify and link them to visual clues while playing a matching game. Babies and younger children enjoy looking at photographs of the special people in their lives. Staff support their language well. They use repetition of simple words and respond to the children when they babble. Children enjoy being physically active. They move their bodies in different ways while they listen to music, becoming familiar with different rhythms and beats.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff meet children's individual care routines well. They greet them warmly each day and children separate well from their parents. Children rest and sleep according to their needs. Staff are vigilant to the children's well-being and effective routines are in place to ensure they sleep safely. Children enjoy healthy foods each day. Staff ensure menus reflect children's individual dietary needs and preferences. Older children develop independence. They collect their own plates and cutlery, and serve their own meals. Staff support babies and younger children at mealtimes. They enrich children's learning experiences outdoors with activities that complement and extend the range of experiences indoors. For example, children plant, nurture and observe their plants and vegetables as they grow.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They learn essential skills for their future learning and in readiness for the move on to school. Children develop confidence, make informed choices and become competent in their own personal care. They vocalise their ideas and listen to the views and opinions of their peers.
