This provision is good
The childminder uses her detailed observations of children to plan a range of stimulating activities that captures children's interest and helps them achieve what they need to learn next. All children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder effectively supports parents to continue their children's learning at home. For example, she provides parents with resources that help them support their children's early reading and writing skills. The childminder provides children with a warm and welcoming environment which has a real family feel. She gives them consistent guidance around her expectations of good behaviour. School-aged children and younger children play well together, they show kindness and consideration to each other. The childminder manages her assistant well to ensure they have a good understanding of their role and responsibilities, including their safeguarding responsibilities.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently seek precise information from parents about what children already know and can do from the start to help her identify any areas children may need extra support with as quickly as possible. The childminder's evaluation of her provision is not rigorous enough to help her achieve outstanding outcomes for children.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

gather more precise information from parents when children first start to build a comprehensive knowledge of children from the outset explore further ways of engaging parents in the self-evaluation process and gain a broader view of strengths and areas for improvement.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and her assistant interacting with children and assessed the impact of teaching on children's learning. The inspector completed two joint evaluations of an activity with the childminder, including one of the assistants practice. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided. The inspector spoke to the assistant at suitable times.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant regularly refresh their knowledge of how to protect children. They know the procedures to take if they have any child protection concerns, including in the event of any allegation made against them. Overall, partnerships with parents are good. She provides them with a wealth of information about their children's time in her setting. The childminder acts on the advice of other professionals to make improvements. She has acted effectively to address the recommendations from her last inspection. She uses her links with other professionals and her own research to develop her skills. For example, she has improved her planning and assessments of children. The childminder provides the support and supervision she needs to develop her assistant's practice. For example, she ensures he knows what children need to learn next and has improved his knowledge of child development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her regular assessments to monitor children's learning to help ensure their continued good progress. She provides an appropriate balance of child-led and adult-led play that children enjoy as they achieve their identified next steps. Children enjoying making a fruit salad, developed their descriptive vocabulary and learnt how to use a knife safely. The childminder and her assistant introduce new words to the children when they describe what they are doing, helping to enrich their vocabulary. They successfully motivate the children to persevere in developing new skills. The childminder and her assistant effectively help children gain early literacy and mathematical skills. They ask skilled questions that help encourage children to compare and count.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a wide variety of resources to help children independently play and explore. Children learn how to follow a healthy lifestyle. The childminder teaches children good hygiene routines, such as washing hands after they have collected eggs chickens have laid. The childminder ensures children play energetically outside each day. She helps children respect others in the world around them. They learn about celebrations from other cultures and they enjoy joining in local community events. All children are settled and happy in her care. Children receive enthusiastic praise for their efforts and the childminder provides emotional reassurance when needed.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn a wide range of skills, which prepares them well for the next stage in their learning, including their move on to school. They are confident and motivated to learn. Older children learn how to check their own ideas, such as when counting. Children develop good mathematical understanding. They enjoy many chances to create. They learn to mix colours as they explore and make marks during a painting activity. Younger children and children who are more reluctant to speak, benefit from targeted support to develop their speech well.
