p.1

This provision is good

 Staff know the children well and the key-person system is effective. For example, staff tailor care to individual children's needs. They help children become familiar with the setting and settle them in well. Children are independent, confident and secure.  Self-evaluation is used effectively by the manager. For instance, weaknesses at the previous inspection have been addressed. Staff make the best use of resources to support children's learning. Assessments of children's learning are completed and children enjoy effective outdoor play experiences.  The manager monitors children's progress well to identify any gaps in their learning. Children make good progress from their individual starting points.  Staff work well with parents and establish professional relationships. For example, parents speak highly of staff and they are fully informed about their children's progress.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not make the best of opportunities to further develop children's creative skills.  Staff provide interesting group activities; however, sometimes they miss opportunities to help children gain the most from their learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for children to explore a wide range of materials, resources and sensory experiences to enable them to be creative  consider further how group activities can be improved to help encourage all children to take part fully and help extend their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector talked with parents, the provider, staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector observed the staff's interactions during activities indoors and outdoors and looked at a range of resources and equipment.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's details, learning records, insurance and other relevant documentation.  The inspector undertook a joint observation with the provider.  The inspector had discussions with the provider about policies and procedures and methods of assessing and planning for children's progress. The inspector also discussed how staff work with parents and other providers.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. Staff understand how to identify any concerns about a child's welfare and follow reporting procedures. Staff know how to identify if children are at risk of extreme views or behaviours. Staff carry out risk assessments of the premises to help identify any risks to children, and maintain their safety. Staff are well deployed and supervise children well. All staff are suitable to fulfil the requirements of their roles and most are qualified. The manager helps staff to improve their practice. For instance, he provides effective support and coaching, including regular supervision and training opportunities. Staff obtain information about children before they stay at the provision, to help meet their needs. This includes details of children's likes, dislikes and daily routines. Parents are informed effectively about the service and any complaints are dealt with.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff carry out observations and assessments on children's entry levels of development and complete continuous observations. Staff interact well with children. For instance, they join in with their play and support their learning. Staff support children's physical development well. For example, younger children sit unsupported on the floor and are provided with resources that move or make a noise, to help encourage them to reach out with their arms and legs. Older children enjoy riding wheeled toys, climbing, running and jumping. Staff encourage children's communication and language effectively. For instance, children enjoy opportunities to speak and listen. Children attend for a variety of times during the day, for short and long periods, and most are new to this situation. Staff are skilled at supporting children's personal, social and emotional development. For example, staff settle children quickly, and babies make their own choices with support and enjoy

looking at mirrors. Staff respond to what babies show they are interested in and want to do. Staff enjoy older children's success with them to help them feel confident.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff carry out effective hygiene procedures, including during nappy changing routines. They ensure that the cleaning of all associated equipment is completed effectively. Children's milk bottles and water cups are stored appropriately and all resources are clean. Staff support children's understanding of behaviour. For example, children are aware of how their actions affect others. Staff encourage children to learn about healthy lifestyles, for instance, the snacks provided for children are nutritious. Staff attend to babies' needs and ensure they are cared for well.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for their next stage of learning, including school. Younger children are keen to explore the resources and play alongside others. Older children enjoy taking part in role-play activities, such as with the trains and the garage. They demonstrate friendly behaviour and initiate conversations with their peers and adults.
