This provision is good
The childminder creates a nurturing environment where children's emotional development is promoted very well. Children develop strong emotional bonds with the childminder and friendships with each other. They are happy and settled. They demonstrate that they feel safe and secure and are friendly when they are introduced to visitors. Children have lots of opportunities to develop their social skills and learn about aspects of the natural world and their local environment. They meet and play with other children as they visit a wide and varied range of childcare venues. They help to plant, grow, reap and eat vegetables grown in the childminder's garden. The childminder completes and shares with parents accurate assessments of children's learning from the onset. Assessments show that all children are making good progress. The childminder is well qualified and very experienced. She continually aims to improve

and strengthen the quality of her provision. She seeks and responds to feedback about her setting from parents and children. Since the last inspection, she has improved the range of learning experiences for children in her house and garden.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's teaching is sometimes not sharply focused on helping children to achieve their next steps in learning during activities. Although the childminder continually exchanges information with parents about children's care, she is less successful in finding ways to help parents support children's learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents and other professionals through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder takes all necessary steps to keep children safe indoors and outdoors. She is confident in the action she must take if she has a concern about a child's welfare. She keeps herself up to date with current child protection issues. The childminder seeks guidance to help her improve her knowledge and practice. She recognises where she could further develop her practice and puts plans in place to help her achieve this. Parents' written statements show high levels of satisfaction with the quality of care that their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is skilful in joining in with children's play. She models speech and language effectively and supports children's choice, interest and spontaneous play well. Children are confident to initiate their own play and follow their own interests using the extensive range of good-quality resources. The childminder is a good role model. She gives clear explanations and demonstrations, to help children develop skills and an understanding of how to do new things. Children enjoy being creative and imaginative. They are eager to explore, experiment and learn through trial and error. The childminder captures opportunities to model writing to children and she encourages them to recognise and hear sounds that letters represent. Children show good levels of interest in books and making marks. As children play, the childminder helps them to increase their understanding of number, shape and size.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop good social skills. Younger children enjoy watching and joining in with older children's play. Older children are eager to help and include younger children. Children take turns, share resources and play cooperatively. They have lots of opportunities to be active outdoors and develop their physical skills. The childminder helps children to recognise how they can stay safe as they play. Younger children learn to use large equipment, such as slides, climbing frames and swings, safely. Children take an active role in their care routines. Younger children collect their nappies at changing time and wash their hands before and after snack. Children take part in activities that help them to recognise and value similarities and differences in themselves and others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for their next steps in learning and for school when the time comes. Children become confident communicators. They enjoy challenging themselves and experiencing achievement as they increasingly learn to do more things for themselves. Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties. Younger children are eager and motivated to take part in new activities and experiences. They show high levels of enjoyment as they sing a wide repertoire of songs with actions.
