This provision is good
Children have close relationships with the childminder. Younger children enjoy playing and interacting with older children, which helps to develop their communication and language skills. The childminder provides effective emotional support for children of all ages. She responds quickly when younger children put up their arms for a cuddle and praises older children for their good behaviour and consideration for their younger peers. Children enjoy playing outside. They explore the garden and use their imaginative skills in 'dinosaur and digger land'. Children pretend to cook in the mud kitchen and bounce off excess energy on the trampoline, which helps to support their physical well-being. The childminder has made good links with the local school teachers and staff working at other pre-schools that children attend. She shares information, such as children's current interests, and provides activities that reflect topics children are learning at pre-

school to help extend their learning further. Children have a range of opportunities to learn about the differences and similarities between themselves and others. The childminder encourages children to ask questions, talk about their family backgrounds and home life, and respect each other's uniqueness.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is still developing her assessment and planning methods. She observes children and broadly identifies what they need to learn next. However, she does not yet consistently use this information to help children to make the best possible progress.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop further the ongoing assessment and planning methods to more precisely plan for what children need to learn next and help them make the best possible progress.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas of the childminder home that she uses for childminding. The inspector read parents' written comments to find out their views of the childcare provision. The inspector spoke to the children and the childminder at appropriate times. The inspector observed the childminder playing and interacting with the children. The inspector sampled a range of relevant documentation, including the childminder's suitability checks, evidence of her paediatric first-aid qualification and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is keen to improve her service and seeks the views of parents to help her identify areas to improve. She regularly looks for new ideas to develop her practice and skills. The childminder uses resources, such as childminding websites, to help find new ways to introduce literacy and numeracy into everyday routines. For example, she has put numbers on the toy boxes to encourage the younger children to use number language in their daily routines. The childminder attends a range of training, helping to develop her knowledge. For example, she makes good use of local authority training to keep her safeguarding knowledge up to date. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities to report any concerns about children's safety and welfare to the relevant agencies.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows how to observe children and keeps detailed records of their achievements. She makes good use of her resources to occupy and engage children. For example, younger children enjoy splashing in a water tray outside. They use their hands to move the water, taking great delight in the freedom of being able to get completely wet. The childminder provides a good range of opportunities to help children extend their mathematical skills. She sets them fun tasks, such as completing counting activities which helps them to quickly add bigger numbers together in their heads and reach the correct total. Children proudly announce they are done and tell the childminder their answer.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to behave well and consider others, taking into account their ages and stage of development. Children remember the safety rules, such as not jumping on the trampoline when others are getting on and off and wait patiently for their turn at the handwashing station. The childminder encourages children to play games, which helps to develop their social and communication skills. They take turns during board games, rolling the dice and then picking up the relevant pieces. The childminder makes good use of a canopy that goes over the trampoline and adds lights to create a sensory area. She puts books and cushions onto the trampoline, which creates a calm atmosphere for children to look at books and listen to stories.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make steady progress and develop a good range of skills that helps to prepare them for school. They are independent and know to wash their hands after being outside and before having their snacks or meals. Children have good mathematical and literacy skills. For example, they learn that one object represents one number as they carefully collect the right number of cubes and place on the matching numbered shape. Children persevere and are rewarded with lots of praise when they count all the cubes to reach the correct total.
