This provision is good

 The management team leads and supports staff effectively. For example, it follows clear systems that help staff improve their knowledge and skills, to ensure positive outcomes for children.  The nursery is bright and welcoming. Children enjoy a warm and friendly environment, where they relax, settle and begin learning quickly.  Staff organise a variety of good activities that stimulates children's investigative and exploratory skills. For example, children play with dough scented with chocolate.  Staff develop effective partnerships with parents. They share a wide range of information, such as daily routines and children's developing interests. This helps parents and staff provide a consistent level of support and learning for children.  The manager and staff follow secure methods to plan activities. They base activities on children's developmental needs and interests. Good-quality activities encourage

children's curiosity to play and learn. Children develop positive attitudes to learning and concentrate well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff supporting the younger children do not consistently build on opportunities to extend children's eagerness to help complete simple tasks and be independent.  At times, staff do not focus well enough on children who are less confident during group activities, to ensure they participate and benefit from the learning opportunities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make better use of opportunities to support children's eagerness to complete simple tasks independently, especially the younger children  ensure staff support all children effectively to join in during group activities, especially those who are less confident.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children playing in different environments, with friends, staff and independently.  The inspector spoke to parents, children and staff at convenient times during the inspection.  The inspector conducted a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector held a meeting with the manager to discuss how she organises the nursery and monitors children's learning.  The inspector sampled a range of documents, including polices, staff qualifications and children's records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The manager and staff know how to identify and report any concerns they have about children's welfare. They keep their knowledge up to date so they can take prompt action if necessary. The manager follows effective recruitment procedures. For example, new staff undergo suitable person checks. She provides all staff with ongoing support and monitors their individual practice well. Staff share their knowledge and skills learnt from ongoing training with others during staff meetings. This contributes to consistent standards of teaching throughout the nursery. The manager reflects on how the team can make improvements. She seeks the views of staff and parents to help her identify weaknesses and plan for improvement. For example, to use a software package to record children's progress and development. Self-evaluation is effective.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff throughout the nursery use effective teaching techniques that appeal to children's ages and stages of learning. For example, staff who support babies focus on developing close bonds so children settle. Staff working with the older age group play alongside children to explore activities. For example, as children use pens to draw on paper, staff encourage them to talk about the marks they make, supporting their very early reading and writing well. Staff observe children's developing interests and plan carefully to extend their learning. The manager monitors children's progress effectively. She analyses the assessments staff compile, to ensure staff support all gaps or emerging strengths promptly.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well. They are happy and settled at the nursery. Staff build close bonds with them to increase their feelings of security and readiness to learn. Staff are supportive and are good role models for children. They provide children with positive examples of how to interact with others, such as being polite. Overall, children learn to be independent. For example, they serve themselves lunch and understand the need to maintain good hygiene, such as washing their hands.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children enjoy activities across all areas of learning. They settle well and show good motivation to learn. Children play with a variety of resources and develop their interests. Children build strong physical skills and play in a variety of outdoor areas. They learn about the natural world and life cycles, such as planting seeds and observing changes as vegetables grow. Children develop a keen interest in books. Babies handle books confidently and start to understand that pictures can tell stories. This supports the beginnings of very early reading. Older children use equipment to make marks, such as pens. They practise early writing skills as they draw and paint. Older children understand what staff expect of them. For example, they put aprons away once they have finished painting. Children make good progress. They develop the skills for their future learning and eventual move to school.
