This provision is good
The quality of teaching is consistently good across the nursery and the new leader in pre-school often demonstrates exceptional practice. The pre-school staff place a strong focus on preparing children for school. They promote children's early literacy and mathematical skills through an imaginative and exciting range of activities that are thoroughly enjoyed by the children. Staff place a clear priority on promoting children's personal, social and emotional development. When children move to another room, their emotional well-being is given top priority to help them settle. There are effective systems in place to keep parents informed about their children's progress and involve them in their children's learning. Staff use an effective range of strategies to teach children about feelings, respecting others and self-control. Staff place a strong focus on providing good opportunities for children to increase their

It is not yet outstanding because:
The owner/manager does not use monitoring and staff development opportunities effectively enough to help raise the quality of teaching and the use of assessment to an exceptional level. Staff in the 'tweenies' room do not always make the very best use of the available resources to help increase children's levels of motivation and curiosity.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the owner/manager. The inspector held a meeting with the owner/manager. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery. The inspector spoke with staff and children at the nursery during the inspection. The inspector spoke to parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. There are robust systems in place to ensure staff are suitable. New staff benefit from a detailed induction when they first start. This helps to ensure staff have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities. All staff are trained in child protection and wider safeguarding issues, knowing the procedures to follow if they are concerned about a child's welfare or safety. Parents report high levels of satisfaction with the nursery. They are impressed by how well staff know their children, follow their interests and build on their learning. The owner/manager places a strong focus on collating the views of staff through regular staff meetings and by consulting with parents and children. This information is used well to reflect on practice and adapt the service offered.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The pre-school leader, who holds early years teacher status is highly motivated and often makes the very best use of routines and activities to provide children with challenging experiences. For example, she places an excellent focus on children measuring, estimating and recognising numbers during a pizza making activity. Children learn that print carries meaning as they refer to the recipe and show excellent levels of involvement. Staff use the children's interests well as a secure base to help them learn. For example, they use children's favourite books and their interest in the natural world to encourage them to speak, explore differences and be imaginative. Staff provide plenty of opportunities for children to engage in discussion. Staff caring for the younger children support their communication skills. They place a good focus on repeating words, introducing new words and singing to children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Pre-school staff organise a routine where children take on extra responsibility, such as caring for the pet snail as they spray the soil with water and feed it. The golden rules are displayed and discussed with children and the 'zone board' encourages them to think about positive behaviour. Children independently access their snacks and increase their self-help skills well. Staff encourage children to consider differences within the group. For example, they begin to value language diversity as they learn German phrases and words.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Older children begin to independently manage their disputes about sharing as they use a timer and remind each other of expected behaviour. Children thoroughly enjoy learning. For example, they help to plan their graduation party and negotiate the food they will eat and songs they will sing. Children confidently use mathematical language, enjoy writing and learn about rhythm and sound through fun activities. All children, including those receiving additional funding, make good progress from their starting points.
