This provision is good

 The childminder and her assistant provide a warm and welcoming environment for children. They are caring and affectionate towards them. Children demonstrate that they feel safe and secure in their company. Children behave well.  The childminder provides children with a wide range of stimulating resources and activities. Children are motivated to listen, talk, play, explore and learn. All children make good progress.  The childminder provides parents with regular information about the activities children take part in and the progress they make during their time with her. She successfully encourages parents to share what they know about their child's learning at home.  The childminder evaluates her service and takes into account the views of her co- childminder, parents and children when making any changes. This helps her to drive improvement and provide consistently high-quality care and learning experiences.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always match planning precisely to individual children's learning needs.  Occasionally, the childminder's assistant does not fully promote the youngest children's learning during group activities with children of different ages and abilities.  The childminder has not yet established highly effective partnership working with other providers, to help promote a more collaborative approach to children's learning and development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 plan activities more precisely to match children's next steps so that they can make even better progress  improve the support for the youngest children during activities with children of mixed ages and abilities, to extend their learning further  improve partnerships with other settings children attend and share detailed information about their development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and reviewed the childminder and her assistant's quality of teaching. She jointly evaluated an activity with the childminder.  The inspector looked at children's learning journals and a range of other documentation. She discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process.  The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding and the toys and resources available.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and adults working on the premises and the childminder's qualifications. The inspector held discussions with the childminder, her assistant and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took account of parents spoken to on the day along with written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have a secure knowledge of the potential signs that a child may be at risk of harm. They show a clear understanding of the procedures to follow to report any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder is a reflective practitioner who maintains ongoing professional development. For example, she makes good use of personal online research and training opportunities. The childminder has strong working relationships with other childminders and liaises with them regularly, exchanging ideas and sharing best practice. The childminder has procedures in place to review her assistant's practice to help her development her knowledge and skills. She ensures her assistant is fully informed and has a good understanding of her policies and procedures. Overall, the childminder monitors children's progress effectively and closes any gaps in their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is an effective teacher and she understands that children learn though play. She knows the children's current stage of development. The childminder plays alongside children to guide and stretch their learning and interacts with enthusiasm. The childminder's assistant provides good commentary during activities and routines. This helps to promote children's language skills and to provide opportunities for children to hear and practise new words. The childminder supports children to learn to recognise letters and practise their early writing skills. She teaches children to operate simple technology as they learn about the wider world. For example, children are motivated as they match different animals to their countries. Babies press buttons on toys and show delight and fascination at what happens next.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has high but fair expectations for children's behaviour and has effective behaviour strategies to which children respond well. Children demonstrate that they feel happy and secure in the childminder's company. For example, they go to her for hugs when they want. The childminder helps children learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles. She supports their physical development well. For example, she provides plenty of opportunities for energetic play, in her garden and at the local park. She helps babies to strengthen their legs ready for walking and encourages their coordination. The childminder helps children to recognise potential dangers and teaches them how to keep themselves safe. Children learn about the differences between people and celebrations around the world.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress in all areas of their development. They are inquisitive learners who maintain good levels of concentration during play. Children are confident and independent. They are learning to count, add, subtract and recognise numbers. Children enjoy handling books and listening to stories. Children develop key skills and attitudes in readiness for their future learning, including their move on to school.
