This provision is good
The childminder and her assistant effectively promote children's personal, social and emotional development. Children develop a real sense of belonging and show that they are happy in their care. The childminder helps children to understand the importance of sharing toys and being kind. Children behave well. They have good relationships with each other. Children enjoy outdoor play each day in the childminder's garden or at local parks. They learn to use a range of equipment and develop their physical skills well. Children relish in ball-rolling competitions and in digging in the sand to build construction sites. The childminder monitors children's progress to enable her to take swift action to close any gaps in their development. All children make good progress from their individual starting points. They are confident, motivated and well prepared for the next stage in their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder keeps parents informed about their child's progress, she does not regularly provide them with ideas about ways that they can continue children's learning at home. Although the childminder's assistant takes part in a variety of professional development opportunities to improve her teaching practice, the childminder has not focused her own programme of continuous professional development sharply enough to extend her skills and knowledge.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

build on the methods used to help parents to continue children's learning at home extend the childminder's programme of professional development so that it is sharply focused on key areas of practice to strengthen the quality of her teaching even further.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke with the childminder's assistant and the children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has greatly improved her provision since the last inspection. She monitors her assistant and provides the support and supervision she needs to improve her practice. Furthermore, she has developed effective partnerships with other settings that children attend in order to provide a consistent approach to children's learning and development. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant demonstrate a good understanding of safeguarding and wider child protection issues. They are confident in recognising the signs and symptoms of abuse. They know how to follow local reporting procedures to secure support for children who may be at risk. The childminder includes the views of parents and children in her self-evaluation process. This helps her to continually build on the service provided and identify further areas for development. Parents comment that their children love attending the childminder's
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of child development. They carry out observations and make assessments of children's learning through play. Overall, they use this information well to adapt their planning to provide interesting and stimulating activities that engage and enthuse children. Children really enjoy exploring the textures and the smells of dough as they push twigs into it to make 'monsters'. The childminder and her assistant promote children's thinking and problem-solving skills well. They phrase questions in different ways to encourage children to think about their answers and to give them time to respond. Children eagerly work out where the balls are going to fall from the pipes they are rolling them down.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistant get to know children well by seeking relevant information from children and their parents about their needs and interests. Children are safe and very well cared for. The childminder's playroom is bright and stimulating. There is a wide variety of resources to help children to make independent choices in their play. Children learn about the importance of healthy eating and the childminder includes fresh fruit and salads at mealtimes. Children enjoy finding out about celebrations and festivals from other cultures and going on outings into the community. The childminder helps children to build respect towards others in the world around them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children show good understanding and follow instructions well. They learn to count and use early mathematical and literacy skills. Children delight in writing their names in paint and investigating what happens when they mix colours together. Children enjoy a wide variety of activities that support them in developing skills for their move on to nursery or school. They show good levels of concentration and enjoyment during activities.
