This provision is good
The childminder effectively evaluates the quality of the care and learning experiences she provides to benefit children. She seeks the opinions of parents and children. The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements. She plans a well-balanced range of activities and play opportunities that aids children's learning effectively. The childminder knows what children can do and what they need to learn next. Her assessments are accurate and include a progress check for children aged between two and three years. The childminder has a warm welcome for parents and their children. She invites parents to bring their children for short sessions before their starting date. This arrangement reassures parents. They see their children develop a bond with the childminder and quickly adjust to their new environment. Children make good progress from their starting points. They leave the childminder's

provision with the skills they need for school and future learning.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not focus her professional development sufficiently on improving the quality of her teaching and increasing the potential for children to achieve rapid progress in their learning. The childminder does not build on children's early understanding of shape and pattern to help enhance their early mathematical skills further.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of practice and its impact on children's care and learning. The inspector evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records and a range of other documentation, including training certificates and evidence of suitability checks. The inspector took account of parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has recently renewed her safeguarding training. She has a good understanding of possible signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect. The childminder is very confident in her ability to implement the correct procedures should she feel a child is at risk. The childminder carries out visual checks of her home, resources and equipment to ensure that they are suitable for children to use. She keeps the home secure to prevent anyone entering or leaving unnoticed, helping to keep children safe. The childminder ensures that parents understand her policies and procedures which explain her role and responsibilities as well as what is expected of them.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder stacks a small number of picture blocks and invites children to join in. She names the animals in the pictures and introduces counting up to three, which toddlers repeat. She offers younger children stacking beakers which they place inside each other. Toddlers attempt to fit shapes into wooden jigsaws and show a sense of pride when successful. The childminder demonstrates to the younger children how to clip pegs to a metal colander, helping to develop their small-muscle skills. They show a determination to succeed and keep on trying. Children show an interest in stories and select favourite books they want the childminder to read. They sit and listen, turning the pages over when they are ready to hear what happens next. Children enjoy singing rhymes as they begin to learn new sounds and extend their communication skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder focuses on supporting children as they emotionally prepare for starting school. She shows them their school, explains there will be new things to learn and helps them to understand how their daily routines will change. The childminder is a positive role model. She teaches children the difference between right and wrong, and to be kind and respectful towards others. The childminder is attentive towards the children. She shares her time well between babies and toddlers to ensure they get the individual attention they need. Children are relaxed and happy. They enjoy an environment where they can move around freely and make decisions about what they want to do. Children benefit from fresh air and exercise as they play outdoors and visit local parks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are independent and can manage their care needs. They leave with confidence and social skills to establish personal friendships in school. Children are aware of the wider world around them. They learn the different ways they can keep themselves safe while out and about. Children use their imaginations well during role play. They use chairs to make a den, then feed and wash the doll. Children's physical skills develop quickly. Babies learn how to walk and how to use a spoon to feed themselves. Toddlers learn how to kick a ball and how to hold a pencil as they show an interest in writing.
